Many of us enjoy workshops - whether they're street photography workshops, landscape, studio, fashion - or whatever takes your interest. I run 60-70 workshops every year and in this video I give my tips on how to make the most out your experience so that you get good value and also the best possible learning outcome.

I’ve been on 4 of Brian’s workshops now and would highly recommend them - a great chance to learn, meet like-minded people and have a thoroughly enjoyable time! Book one now - you won’t regret it.

Having decided that Street Photography was the photographic genre I related to most, I had been thinking about attending a Streetsnappers workshop but felt apprehensive given my lack of experience. Having heard from Brian on this video that it was best to approach workshops with a beginner's mentality I plucked up the courage to book!

I've only recently found your channel and absolutely love it. As a beginner to street photography it's immensely encouraging, not to mention a great source of info! Hope to get to one of your workshops soon.

Love what you do Brian along with your no bull crap approach!. Have been checking your website and will book one up once I have bit more confidence in dates I can attend. I’m based in Hertfordshire and often wander the streets of London so know the west end etc relatively well, however in the past the visits are usually drinking or tourist related! 📸👍

Severely lacking in motivation the last few days Brian, enjoyed the video and hopefully it'll help get the groove back. Hopefully do a brief walk locally tomorrow morning for a coffee and to dust off the cobwebs!

@@StreetSnappers unfortunately nothing but clouds this morning so just got my coffee and latest issue of Amateur Photographer for a read. Will have a look this evening if the sun comes out. I live in a small town in Cork called Mallow, not ideal for street so I try find some still life etc.

Excellent, those words by Suzuki are so true. Hopefully one day I’ll get on one of your workshops, in London preferably, anywhere but Manchester. I’d rather go somewhere different than where I spend most of my time and, I do love London

StreetSnappers It can be good, obviously not the size of London but still there’s certain places you know you’re going to at least get something

Depending on the light, I find Castlefield good, also parts of the Northern Quarter such as Tib St and Market St - but when the weather is bad I struggle!

StreetSnappers I was born not far from Tib St in Miles Platting, just past Ancoats. St. Peter’s Square is good for people, very busy Tram Stop and wide open Square with arches on the side of the Town Hall. It is definitely a personal favourite as a shot I took from there has just won me £350 from Ripe Insurance’s Inaugural Street Photography Competition, going to come in handy as I’m looking for a new camera, I have the 1300d and it’s showing it’s limitations now. I could do with a new compact too as my G7 X fell out of my bag and I ran over it with my mobility scooter yesterday, screen’s all cracked, flash is bust as that area took the full impact bending all the metal, I’ve managed to bend it back and not fussed about the flash as I don’t use it. It’s the first edition which I won when it was released, just by filling out my details in the Independent newspaper, shows how well made it is as it does still work but with bits of the screen falling off it won’t for much longer

@@StreetSnappers I’m based in Venice Beach, California, but travel quite often when not in the midst of a pandemic. Hopefully I will make my way back to the UK in the next year or so and sign up for one of your workshops.

Do I have to bring a dinky little camera to the workshop? I only have a Canon 70D with a 18-135mm kit lens, not exactly inconspicuous, seems like I'll have to shell out some cash. Would a smartphone with a wide angle lens work?

Hi, your Canon and zoom will be fine :-)

@@StreetSnappers Thanks. I can't do zone focusing as I don't have a distance scale on the lens barrel. Instead, I used AF and focused on a subject 3 metres away at 22.8mm (35mm full frame equivalent) at f/8, then switched to MF. Entered my data into a depth of field calculator, it said everything would be sharp starting from 1.97m infront of me till infinity. I would assume that's a good workaround?
