Hi, thanks for sharing. I would like to comment on this process; essential oils are very sensitive to heat and most of them evaporate or degrade over 45-50 C degrees. If you boil them or even heat over 50 degrees, you do not have any essential oils in the mixture anymore. If you would like to give it a try, traditional way is to infuse without heating, just putting the buds and oil in a jar 4-6 weeks in a cool dark place, it will be a potent infused oil without degredation. Quicker way is to put the jar under sunlight, maybe in front of a kitchen window for a couple of days and then a week in a cool place, you will get also good results. Just be sure not more than a couple of days under direct sunlight, and never boil :)

I have done oil infusions of lots of different herbs, but the only time I used heat was for dandelion oil. Basically, I lined my crockpot with an old towel, poured in some water, put dandelion flowers and oil in a mason jar, set the jar in the crockpot, and ran the crockpot on low for 24 hours without a lid. It works very well. Then I used the dandelion oil for salve. We love it.

I have 2 extremely large lavender shrubs in my backyard that I've had for over 15 years and they are still in very good shape and last year was the first year I actually harvested the lavender and made lavender oil, lavender soap, lavender wreath and lavender sachets. However I have never made the lavender oil by boiling. I just put it into a jar and added the olive oil and let it stand for a few weeks. But I am going to give your method a try. Thank you for sharing a great learning video.

Do NOT boil it! It will ruin all the good properties of the lavender or any other plant or flower you're trying to infuse. That's why she moved it to the crock pot; her stoves heat was too strong. It should just be kept warm for 5-6 hours; and never get to a point where it starts to simmer.

Thank you for this. I've been wanting to do a particular sage that I can't find anyone making that smells right!!! I don't have the budget for a $200 steam rig and wasn't wanting to spend that kind of money. I love this process and I'll be going TODAY to pick some wild white buffalo sage and making this! I have started making my own MCT beard oil, and this is perfect for the scent I want!!! A dash of clove and I'll have the scent I want! You're awesome!

Just wanna say thank you for sharing!, but the result is not called essential oil. Any carrier oil infused with herbs or plants is called an infused oil or herbal oil. Yours would be Lavender infused Avocado oil to be exact. This kind of oil might contain less than 1% essential oil from the plants.

Yes that’s what I was about to say. I wonder if it still have medicinal properties. Also you really want to have dried flowers as the moisture in the plant matter will turn the oil rancid in a matter of weeks
@ad-wk2sc
@ad-wk2sc 2 жыл бұрын
@@noahshort8514 Yes! The infused oil will also have medicinal properties! It's not only the essential oil in the plant that have medicial properties, there are properties that aren't carried over when steam-distilled, and they also have great properties. I'm not sure exactly what because I'm not an herbal expert, but at least the aroma is still a good "aroma"therapy eventhough it won't be as strong as the essential oil since it is more concentrated.

@@noahshort8514 The moisture of the plants will disappear while cooking it. This is why I cook my Garlic oil. Afterwards it is stable to store without fridge. The problem is to ajust the heat, because you don´t want burn the plants or destroy the good cold pressed carier oil... So better don´t do it directly in a pot. Use a slow cooker or a jar inside of hot water. Watch the process closely. It is also not necessary to heat it for 6 hours. You can heat it for some minutes and then just let it sit in a jar for 2 days, than strain and filter it.

Essential oils are done through distillation. The proper term for this process is the “fast method” for an infusion. Typically one infuses oil from 4-6 weeks. You also need to explain the sanitation of your jar and lid. You cannot exchange the term essential oil with infused oil. They totally different processes.

Hey nice tut! I tried it and at first the smell was so cool i left it and it start boiling and didnt realized it and i fried my herbs.. 🤣🤣 Can you tell me the standar heat in celsius? I will finish the job in the oven.. thanks in advance!!!

You don´t need much heat at all. You will also destroy the nice benefits of avocado oil. In my area avocado oil is very expensive, like 16 bucks for 500 ml. I would never put it on a flame, afterwards it would have no benefits of this cold pressed gem.

Olive oil does a good job of removing the glue.

But doesn't the olive oil change the smell of the lavender oil? Suppose i want just natural lavender? Thanks

Thank you for sharing and subscribe done too🥰. I have questions, I just do my lemongrass essential oil. I do ground the lemongrass ( less 1 kg lemongrass and 2liter oil), and do double boil. My question is why I didn't smell strong lemongrass? Thanks for advance advice.

Try to boil lemongrass in water. Let it sit over night. You need much lemongrass and only few liquid. This works much better for me. With Oil I get nearly no result with this plant (The leaves are much stronger than leaves from Mint or basil).
