Making "Yuragi" PART 03 - painting backgrounds

The third video of me working on my comic "Yuragi". The comic pages are drawn with pencils, scanned once and then colored with watercolors.
This time I'm showing how I paint some frames that are mostly backgrounds: a dilapidated back garden located behind the main hero's house and a view on the small train station in front on the same house.
This comic is located in a place inspired heavily on the stations of the small Enoden train line that goes from Fujisawa, through Enoshima to Kamakura. I took some photos few years ago and used them as reference for the comics' setting but now we actually live with Kana not so far from Enoshima!
Tools:
* Lines: Mitsu-bishi HI UNI F to 6B grade pencils
* Paper: White Watson 300g/m watercolor paper
* Colors: my custom 48 colors set and 48 colors Schmincek set.
(You can read more about my tool on my website: mateuszurbanowicz.com/tools-faq)

You should try painting watercolours too. It's very soothing to imagine yourself painting something slowly and in great detail. No room for unwelcome anxious thoughts - just water and colour.

He has a unique atyle of doing watercolor that i admire. Many artist teach us to color in layers and layers to build up the piece. Here, Matt works in compartmemt and do colors with dark tones even on the first layer. Wow. Amazing!

I loved seeing you paint in real time at the end, sometimes when it's a timelapse, everything seems "easy" or perfect at the first try, but seeing you put much efforts in little details and even making mistakes that you had to fix makes the whole video super interesting ! :) Can't wait to see more art from your comic, wsh you the best of luck

Hello Mr. Urbanowicz! I recently subscribed after stumbling across your channel and I must say; your a huge new inspiration for me and my art! I was wondering if maybe one day you could do a video tutorial about how you do shadows; how you plan where they're going to go, what colors you use, reflected light, and things like that. Shadows are my biggest challenge right now and I'd love any tips I could get!

To me, that kind of house sounds both beautiful but also a bit frightening. I can imagine people in such houses end up hit by trains tragically often . Though that’s a beauty of it being a comic, you can simply make that not-so by not adding it in

Mr. Urbanowicz? I have a question. How do you motivate yourself to paint everyday? It's something that's been causing my long overdued art block. For me it's work on one hand so I just HAVE to do it, but also I have about 100 ideas and not enough time to do them all. I would like to work more actually ;) but I understand your problem. I have this sometimes. For me, what helps is trying different things. I don't feel like doing digital illustrations then I do watercolors. If I'm bored with that I try a new pen or 3D or whatever I feel like doing. I have long projects that I keep pushing forward but trying new tools etc. is always really refreshing for me. You should try it :)
