Makita CXT vs LXT vs XGT! What's the difference? (Shorts)
CXT - Makita’s CXT 12v slide-on battery platform was introduced a few years back as an alternative to their older 10.8v stick battery range, and now constitutes the primary Makita compact cordless platform. The advantages of these newer batteries include higher capacities, integrated fuel gauges (on the higher amperage models), overload protection and the ability to use them in temperatures down to -20°C.
The CXT range has subsequently grown and the latest generation of brushless tools have been shrunk down as much as possible, making them perfect for fatigue-free use over longer periods and enabling improved access to tight workspaces. The range includes the most common power tools as well as specialist machines like tile saws and multi cutters.
LXT:
Makita's 18v LXT lithium ion platform constitutes one of the biggest selections of professional cordless power tools on the market and is a firm favourite with many trades & industry professionals around the world. As well as a huge variety of tools, the LXT platform is renowned for its extremely efficient battery chargers which are able to fully recharge depleted batteries in record time, ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum during heavy-duty workloads.
Makita has long been associated with the construction industry but the LXT range also includes a number of products that have proved successful in other sectors too. You can find several outdoor power tools in the range, including leaf blowers, grass trimmers, brush cutters, chainsaws and hedge trimmers; most of these tools run on two 18v batteries which enables them to operate at twice the power without having to invest in a separate 36v battery platform. Also running on two 18v batteries is the DVC260 backpack vacuum cleaner which has been adopted by many mobile cleaning teams, especially in the transport industry.
XGT:
Makita's XGT 40v battery platform was announced in 2020 as a powerful, heavy-duty range of cordless power tools designed for trade and industry.
Features like shock resistance, padded battery enclosures, fast charging times and water-resistant housings mean the XGT range is engineered to deliver long life and reliable performance in challenging environments. On top of this, these are some of the most powerful cordless tools Makita has ever released, meaning you no longer have to rely on corded tools for those tougher jobs. Currently, the XGT range consists of angle grinders, SDS Plus rotary hammer drills, a reciprocating saw, circular saw and an impact driver, but will eventually become larger as Makita add more tools to the line-up. The ADP10 charging adaptor means you can charge your existing LXT batteries from the same battery charger to eliminate clutter on site.
