I used a board maki from about 1975 to 2015 .( I still have it bolted to the floor in my garage .Its Japanese willow wood. I hit it every day 120 times .fist / knife hand / palm. I was the only one at my dojo who used one.Not many could block my punches.

I love the fact, that you show us your most beloved walls that you like to hit the most. It certainly helps if you find a place that you actually like to hit, I guess. 🤔🙂 Anyhow, a simple explanation but an impressive achievement. 👍

My respects for this master's discipline, is amazing how is able to strike this kind of surfaces. However, ancient masters beware against this kind of training because the long term consequences: back and brain damage, also, old chinese masters relates striking static surfaces with damage to lungs. The reason behind use surfaces with some give up is because part of the countershok force is disipated and not get back to karateca, also trains explosive punch and features like shime ans shibori and lastly but not less importante trains the capacity to avoid arm hyperextension in case of missing a punch. The famous iron hand sacs formely were stacked on a leather chair instead of a wood table in order to get some give up. Just my 2 cents. Please, master, keep sharing more videos oooosssu

Most respect to you. Love the dedication. I couldn't help but as a green belt in Shotokan and black belt in Tang Soo Do, mostly first place in competitions in 1992-93, in different categories, as well second and third spot ( all in my prime), and with an eye for competition, I did noticed only the right hand is used in your video. I looked the best I could on this video and noticed that left fist didn't get the same training. Am I wrong ?

I watch this video and I'm very worried about the doors. everything starts beautifully (makiwara) and ends with doors and everything wooden in the building. maybe it's better to hang a makiwara on the door right away. yes about chains. instead of a belt, can you dye the chains black to tie them on a kimono? in my opinion, the chain should be thicker both on the arms and on the neck too (red). write on kimono - Panasonic (made in Japan)

Twas a green belt and I just tested. I observed some kids hitting the makiwara we had on the concrete block wall. I told them to hit it hard! I stood in front of the makiwara in a horse stance and hit it three times. Right, left, right. Broke my hand. To this day I have a raised part on the top of my hand where I broke it. Should have used a front stance to absorb the impact to my body. If the makiwara was in the ground as we later had one put in, the force would be more concentrated on the knuckles. My instructor is old school Korean. he told us they would use a razorblade on their knuckles......................................................He told us when he went to school he would hold his hand over his knuckles to hide his developed knuckles.

I was raised on boxing, forced training since I can remember. I always loved to hit the heavy bag bare fist. It used to tear up my hands, but now they are super callused from over there years. Needless to say but I will, once I was in my 20's I was at a party got drunk , put my hand through a stucco wall.. Train yourself gentlemen, it may save your life or your families life one day. When I was young I hated training, putting on the gloves and sparring with my dad. But now I'm very thankful and I absolutely love the full contact sports. What boxing taught me besides being Lethal with my hands is discipline. It's about knowing you can do something but reframe from malicious acts and provide protection for your family.

Master, you are wrong! The makiwara that vibrates is what you need to develop better strength, better transfer, stronger forearm muscles, and good penetration. Without a vibrating makiwara, you are conditioning your brain to stop instead of going through the target. You are a master; you should know these things.

Which way is the arm coming at you with the knife? Is it a thrust? A slash? What? There is no instant kill kata for a dude with a knife. (Keep in mind most dudes with knives are f*d up on narcotics and a alot un predictable) You have to be versed in all forms of attack-defense. You have to know them. Then if the time comes you'll find out if you studied well enough or if you just liked the idea of martial arts (and end up dead or worse - paralysis)

Ever see a skilled carpenter hammer a nail? One strike with the hammer and it's in. Ever watch an amateur? Bent nails or split wood from missed strikes. That's because just because you have the tool or weapon it is worthless without the proper skill and body training on how to use it. So you can have hands like stone (or a hammer) and calloused to the max but if you don't know how to punch or develop that then the callouses are worthless. In the old days in Okinawa they wrapped rope around trees to callous the knuckles but this was separate from "Makiwara" training. Like the title here says "hitting the makiwara." That's all this is... "hitting." Punching is something different and that is learned by the flexible/standard makiwara. Even a heavy bag works. The key is that it allows you to punch through with resistance and that develops the muscles involved along with technique; rather than having the punch halted by a solid object. The flex in a makiwara is important. The harder you punch the harder the makiwara flexes and pushes/springs back creating a constant challenge which helps develop the punch. Speed, power and technique. This is the purpose of a real makiwara. One that flexes. Not to mention the possible damage over the years from pounding something with no give for many years.
