The 16629 / 16630 Malabar Express is an Express train service in India, named after the Malabar Coast, the south-western coastal region of India from Mangalore Central to Thiruvananthapuram Central. As the name suggests, it connects the two ends of the Malabar region (the Southern and the Northern). The train has one of the longest running time between Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram Central.
The train initially ran between Madras and Calicut from 1888 & later extended to Mangalore to become Malabar Express. On July 1, 1940, the train route was extended to Cochin Harbour Terminus which later got extended to Thiruvananthapuram Central to become Trivandrum Mangalore Malabar Express
This train runs between Mangalore Central and Thiruvananthapuram Central. The train no. 16629 starts from Trivandrum at 18:40 hours and reaches Mangalore at 10:25 hours the next day. In the return direction, train no. 16630 leaves Mangalore at 18:15 hours and reaches Trivandrum at 09:00 hours the next day. It runs via Trunk route Kottayam

For who are coming to mangalore central, some tips for them 1) if you are running late and if your train comes 3-5 platform , then you can exit from backside 32:01 which can save some time . 2)You have to change station from central to junction and you have plenty of time , you can catch buses to junction which costs 12 rupees per person *(note: you have to walk 2 min from nearest busstand to junction railway station)*

പണ്ട് അതായതു 2006 വർഷത്തിൽ ഇതിൽ കയറേണ്ടി വന്നു. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു നിന്ന് 5.30 യുടെ വഞ്ചിനാട് കിട്ടാതായപ്പോൾ 6.30 യുടെ മലബാർ എക്സ്പ്രസ്സ് ആയിരുന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. കഷ്ടകാലത്തിനാണ് കയറിയത്. വെറുപ്പിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞു. 11:45 ആയപ്പോൾ എറണാകുളം നോർത്തിൽ എത്തി. ഇതിലും ഭേദം 7.15 നു തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു നിന്നും ചെന്നൈ സൂപ്പര്ഫാസ്റ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതിൽ കയറിയാൽ 10:30 ക്കു എറണാകുളം എത്തുമായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് 2009 ആയപ്പോൾ പട്ടാമ്പിയിൽ നിന്നും രാത്രി വേറെ ഒരു വണ്ടിയും ഇല്ലാത്തതു കൊണ്ട് 11:50 നു വരുന്ന മലബാറിൽ കയറി. വണ്ടി അര മണിക്കൂർ വൈകിയാണ് വന്നത്. 12:15 നു വന്ന വണ്ടിയിൽ കയറിയിട്ട് കാല് കുത്താൻ സ്ഥലമില്ലായിരുന്നു. അതോട് കൂടി പൂർത്തിയായി. പിന്നീട് ഈ വണ്ടിയിൽ കയറിയിട്ടില്ല. ഇനി ഇതിൽ കയറാനുള്ള അവസ്ഥ വരുത്തരുത് എന്നാണ് പ്രാർത്ഥന.

Running Crew from mangalore usually gets releived at shoranur for superfast trains with limited stops (if going towards ERS) else at palakkad if going towards coimbatore / chennai etc. For Duronto, stop at calicut is mainly for parcel purposes and due to passenger demand.
