Malak is underrated. Yes he’s the main villain of the game but he is overshadowed by Revan at every turn.

I think that in Kotor it makes sense for him to be overshadowed. But, I would love to see him as a main character in a prequel of Kotor, during the Mandalorian Wars

@@OrangeJuice-ib9mu Yeah, he's very one-dimensional. He does his job, is cool, but apart from a badass voice he hasn't got much going. Of course, Revan was kinda one-dimensional too in 1. KoTOR 2 changed the game. So did the KOTOR comics for Malak.

@@njux1871 It's such a trenchant insight that KOTOR 2 was the thing that fleshed out Revan as a real character and not simply a very powerful cardboard cutout like Starkiller or the Kratos from God of War 1-3.

@@maxmeista That works just make it feel gritty and intense!! We need to hear Malak's epic music during the battle scene and see him force choke multiple people at once to death. Then Republic troopers start running while Malak is on his rampage. We also should see Sith bombers open fire on a planet's surface while Malak attacks and blow stuff up. We need to feel the vibration of the explosions around. Like Kreia said, Malak had potential and ruled with an iron fist but he ultimately failed and left nothing but a stain of violence in the end. So she asked Exile if she wanted to be remembered by Revan's brilliance or Malak's violence. We see Malak's violence when he bombards Taris, beats up that Mando in the comics, initially "kills" Revan, and is killed by Revan. But it's time to see his Mandalorian War violence, him lose his jaw, and him on a killing spree when the Sith were dominating under his rule.

In my opinion, the Kotor era is the greatest. I grew up on the prequels and I love them to bits but the literal highlights of my childhood is playing the Kotor games. This trailer looks insanely good, I could almost cry.

It's a shame how many fans criticize Malak, stating that (compared to the other KOTOR characters) he is a flat, generic villain. Honestly, I think Malak is much more than a generic villain, as both his development through the KOTOR comics and his relationship with Revan (being the two of them the Obi-Wan and Anakin of the Old Republic) are fascinating, his design and his voice are just BADASS, and on top of that, his death is one of the most mythical in the entire Star Wars franchise

It's kinda like with anakin in the movies compared to anakin in all star wars media. Take in all media and he is simply put one of the best fictional characters around. Take in the prequels and he still very compelling, at least imo, but weak script and some glossing over of plot points and the effects they took on him can leave ppl finding his story lacking in some areas (still love it tho). Same goes for malak. I replayed and finished kotor 1 recently and I'm hoping he gets a lot more attention and depth in the remake cos it's needed if u use the game and nothing else to form an opinion on him. I love old skl bioware and kotor 1 but the writing in that game was a very "childlike" version of good and evil

To be fair, most bad guys in SW are generic. Maul practically didn't have personality in his first movie and it took a series to develop him. He was liked only for his design and fighting style. Malak has an awesome voice and an imposing presence in the whole game.

@TY 2 good way to explain it. It’s the same thing with Darth maul for me. He’s amongst my favorite characters in Star Wars and some who have only seen him in episode one can’t see why I think that. Yet with all other media and shows with Darth maul I just have appreciated his character more and more

I’d love to see Telos’ destruction tied to this. It’s always been implied that Revan removed Malak’s jaw as punishment for something he did, but I don’t think it’s explained. Knowing how Revan kept most planetary government infrastructures intact as he wanted to rebuild upon the foundation of the Republic (GO-T0, HK-47, and Kreia all go into detail about this), I like the theory that Malak gave the order to destroy Telos. Revan removing his jaw for this reason would add a lot of depth to his character as not being controlled by the dark side, and having his own goals/motivations apart from the Sith Empire. It would also tie well in to Malak’s eventual destruction of Taris as sort of a last act of defiance going against Revan’s wishes.

Revan cut off his jaw as they had an argument because Malak disagreed with how Revan was handling the Republic. Revan wanted to rebuild it from the ground up and Malak wanted to flat out destroy it

From what I recall, Revan hacked off Malak's jaw after the guy made a comment about how Revan was "growing soft" with his "Raze one world, spare ten" tactic

IIRC Malak lost his jaw in a duel attempting to usurp Revan's position as master, something he later succeeded by firing on Revan's ship. However, the previous replies in this section is probably correct and I'm the one wrong.

The funny thing about this is that the question everyone has is "Why did Revan do it?" (probably the Telos debacle). I find that hilarious, because it means that even the most important event in Malak's life is more about *Revan* to us than Malak. I guess Malak was right to have such an inferiority complex about Revan. Guy loses his whole freaking jawline, and all we care about is, "Huh, so I wonder what Revan's motive was?"

I am a genuine KOTOR fan from the very start when it came out on Xbox original. Played the entire story multiple ways, multiples times over. As I'm sure you know, this story is one of the most iconic, if not THE most precious holy grails of the star wars universe. This story is so authentic and so packed with action, drama, suspense and this part of the star wars history, with Malak and Revan, contains what I believe is the very essence and standard what star wars films should contain. So many previous attempts have been made, yet have fallen very short, of capturing a solid star wars movie, series, etc, due to time constraints and cutting corners. My biggest piece of advice from a fan standpoint is PLEASE DO NOT RUSH THIS! This honestly very well could be one of the best, if not THE BEST additions and compliments to star wars since I can remember. Ever since the animated fights of the SWTOR series teaser tailors, we haven't seen a solid representation of the essence of star wars. Please don't rush, take your time and put in every effort and to maintain the essence that is found in the original KOTOR story line, while showing us the raw, kick butt action that's in those animated teaser trailers from SWTOR and I garuantee you this series will go down in history as one of the greatest most memorable additions to star wars period!

Fingers Crossed !! Darth Malak (Alek) is so deep character whom got complicated story just like Revan himself.. I always amazed by the stories about how Malak slowly slided through the dark side during the Mandalorian Wars just like Anakin Skywalker.. He was a best friend of Revan, and finally became his Ultimate-Nemesis on his journey.. Great project !! I will share this in everywhere ! 🔥🔥💯💥💥

I know right. KOTOR feels like a much more "magical" time period in that galaxy. The many factions of the time period (Czerka Corp, the Exchange, Sith Empire, etc) adds so much atmosphere to the time period. It makes political field feel unstable with rogue Jedi and Sith, kinda doing whatever they want to do separate from the Republic. Star Wars future feels like it would be best invested in Kotor and even 1000 years before that during the reign of the Sith Kings.

Darth Malak is a seriously underappreciated character. Well written, well acted and an excellent antagonist. It helps that he is the one character who treats the protagonist as a person, talks to them directly about the past, the present and the future, when doing a Darkside playthrough he really feels like the ambitious apprentice turned Sith Lord and the final duel is among the most epic of Star Wars.

Kotor 2 story is fine and all, but Kreia steals the show and her story needs to be told... From start to finish. She is like one of the best written characters in literature or cinema. I don't know how she ended up being what she ended up being, but initially she was the critical commentary of the kotor2 game crew of the Star Wars universe. And she is so magnificently conflicted in her journey that it is some of the best writing ever.

I am having to take lamaze breaths because of how fucking excited I am, it looks so fucking gorgeous, and I cannot WAIT to see this story retold and I feel like you all are going to do the story justice... I can't sit still, I think I got so excited my flight response kicked in, because my legs and arms are all tingly and need to move... I honestly do not know when the last time I was this excited... maybe when I met Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles... I was more excited then for sure, nearly passed out, but if this keeps building it's gonna feel the same

I agree and disagree at the same time... Malak is not the main villain in Kotor... Revan is both the main hero and the main villain... Malak is overshadowed by Revan because Revan is so much more powerful... However I agree with you that Malak is incredibly underrated... They overshadowed the parts where when Malak overthrows Raven he has to go through the sith Empire and reconstitute everything under him... That would take a lot of work and a lot of fighting lol... After he took the title of sith Lord from Raven every other upstart in the sith Empire would be thinking well why can't I do it? It would have been a madhouse... And after he took control all of his time spent at the star forge would have made him a lot stronger I think... In the game I never had much trouble killing Malak... It could be my builds but I don't think he's as strong as he should be
