During a journey to the hills of Malkangiri in Odisha, we met the Hill Bonda tribe, a primitive indigenous community (particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) residing in this region. Classified as one of the primitive tribes of Odisha, the dwindling population of the Hill Bonda tribe has raised concerns among policymakers, advocacy groups, and concerned citizens. In response, the Hill Bonda Development Agency was established to address these issues, although its effectiveness remains questionable.
Our interactions with the Hill Bonda people provided insights into the preservation of their culture, language, and traditional attire. We discovered that efforts to maintain these cultural aspects are underway, but the challenges are substantial. The tribe's interaction with mainstream society also came into focus, revealing complex dynamics at play.
