Did u listen to Navarasam (Malayalam)? Varaha roopam (kannada song, said to be inspired by Navarasam) is wonderful too. Also listen to singara siriye (same movie as Varaha roopam - 'Kantaara'). Harisankar is an amazing musician,taught by his grandmother Omanakutty teacher(teacher of KS Chitra) and his father Alleppey Sreekumar who was a great music teacher and musician. his mother is also a great veena artist.

Fusion music is kind of AR Rahman's forte...his claim to fame was his music in the 90s where he masterfully blended Carnatic music with western music and you get this classic indian ragas but with modern twist and vibes and i think that why so many of his music has stood the test of time
