MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD IN SANDAKAN, SABAH!! I'm on the island of Borneo to discover it's rich biodiversity and unique culinary scene! This place is famous for its seafood so I'm taking you for a 24 hour seafood feast in the city of Sandakan here in Malaysia.
Starting things off at Labuk bay where you can get up close and personal with the famous proboscis monkeys. Next I'm off to taste ikan bakar or grilled seafood at a local joint called Mama Resepi's. After a big seafood lunch I went to visit another one of Borneo's famous animals the sun bear. Your best chance to see them is at the sun bear conservation centre (www.bsbcc.org.my/index.html). Ending my day with a Cantonese inspired seafood dinner at Empire Seafood restaurant!

7:04 the bitterness you're tasting is from the belly of the fish where the gut normally sits. Good to scrape the dark inner lining of that lower area before eating.

Hi Luke, the bitter taste from your first bite could probably be from stomach cavity part of the Ikan Belais (Rabbit Fish). Personally, I'd skip eating this part of this particular fish. Anyway, I'm glad you covered the Sim Sim Food Court - It's one of my favourite spot to eat in Sandakan too.

Proboscis monkeys are really uncommon, sun bears are so cute, thank you Luke for letting me know them! The sambal sauce on grilled fish should be the soul of the food and it looks delicious! Luke, top-notch video. Loving your indigenous food, animals, and people combination - genius - so authentic and so you. A vast majority of food lovers are also animal and culture lovers...the three go hand in hand. Finding insightful content for the indigenous people is always going to be hardest for you due to the language barrier. The restaurant that you visited where the owner/chef was a fan of your channel - it's highly likely that he's indigenous. How about you feature the chefs behind the best food you eat in each area...as they are highly likely to be indigenous. If there is a language barrier issue, you can subtitle and/or use KZfaq voiceover. Also, if you feature the chef first...he or she will tell you about the best place to see the indigenous animals... Loving your work!
