Adam is pleased to welcome author and journalist Malcolm Gladwell for a one-on-one interview in Part 2 of today’s show. They begin by comparing their similar hair styles, and go on to discuss Malcolm’s new audiobook, ‘Miracle and Wonder’. Adam then tells Malcolm about never learning how to read, and the guys go on to talk about how that perfectly prepared Adam for radio. Later they discuss people getting confused that Malcolm worked on ‘Freakonomics’, what motivates criminals, and the differences between rock stars Paul Simon and Sting. In the last part of the show, Adam talks with Malcolm about career longevity.

Every Gladwell interview ends up with him being so interested in the interviewer that they affectively switch roles. That’s how good of a listener Malcolm is.

Not just that. He also knows when to ask a question that will stop the interviewer in their tracks and be forced to answer. Have you seen him on Kimmel or Colbert? Even with 8 minutes he's reveal more out of those dudes than the years we spent watching them.

That was the most gracious response from Gladwell when Adam mistook him for Dubner. Someone’s head should roll for that mistake. It’s a shame Adam has never read or listened to anything Gladwell wrote, he would love it.

Adam not being able to read is the most shocking thing I've heard. Both my children read at age four. That gave them a head start and they were in gifted programs all though school. While the other kids were learning how to read, they moved forward in other areas. Another funny thing about this episode is my children went to private school (both on scholarships- that reading thing really paid off!). The school was on Carly Simon's childhood home (it later became 2 schools, one for boys (King) and the other for girls, Low-Heywood Thomas. It consolidated into a coed school King Low-Heywood Thomas in Connecticut.
