Malcolm himself spoke openly about his past, so that is a think a compliment and an inspiration to anyone who comes from similar backgrounds that they too can rise to greatness.

But when he confided this to one of his teachers, a person Malcolm X respected and admired, his teacher responded black people aren't good enough to be lawyers. His teacher continued on to say that Malcolm X was smart, so he should look into becoming a carpenter or a machinist. This absolutely crushed the young Malcolm, who became less and less interested in school after being told his dream wasn't allowed because of his skin.
