Malcolm X, Malcolm Little, or as he prefers El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, the world has known him as a fearless and courageous man. He was one of the greatest and most influential African American leaders throughout American history. His story of bravery and perseverance did not begin that way.
When Malcolm was six, his father was brutally murdered by a white supremacist group. An uncle of his was lynched as well. After his mother was committed to a mental health institution, Malcolm and his siblings were sent to foster homes or to live with family members. At school, when asked what he wanted to be in the future, Malcolm said, “a lawyer!”. His teacher responded disapprovingly, “How could a nigro become a lawyer?”
He dropped formal education, entered the world of prostitution and sold drugs in Harlem streets untill fate brought him into prison in 1946. There, he joined The Nation of Islam movement which advocates to hate, demonize, and enemize the white man. He became famous and one of the movement’s leaders, second in rank to Elijah Muhammad himself.
His eloquent speeches and strong personality attracted thousands to join the movement. At some point, he stopped.
This is the first documentary in Arabic shedding light on Malcolm X’s story; from being one of the staunchest advocates of The Nation of Islam movement to one of its mortal enemies and until he was assassinated.
The documentary interviews journalist Peter Goldman and Malcolm’s daughter, Ilyasah El-Shabazz, on the same stage where he was assassinated 55 years ago. in cooperation with the Muslim World League.
