Hallo Malcolm, in my humble opinion your tutorials and your way of explaining is very comprehensive. Your video on the up unweighted turns was a game changer for me. Just like the one about the torsional turn with the hips moving across the board. Just like the riding on edge was one of the best advice. I didn't even realise how skidded my turns were. I ride much more confident now. Next step; I'm gonna incorporate the knie move. It's similar to the "open door-close door" move but not so exaggerated, with less hip-action. I hope the weather stays good. Greetings from Germany

Nice one Malcolm! Saw a CASI webinar that said we are essentially momentarily destabilising ourselves and falling down the hill (ie crossing our centre of mass from the working edge over to the new edge) and allowing the base of support to catch up (ie the snowboard side cut engages and turns around to the new edge and holds up your centre of mass again). And we do that when we walk - pushing off our back foot, we are essentially allowing our centre of mass to fall forward, then planting the back foot in front of us moves the base of support below our centre of mass.

Hey Malcolm and Indy, thanks for all the tuition. I`m an ex skateboarder from the 70`s, started snowboarding at 50 and off to Whistler tomorrow. your vids are the nuts, so well explained that I take it straight to the mountain. I was in Les Deux for the last 3 days before the first lockdown and the only run I`ve done since then was a hike up the North Downs near Maidstone and a 30 second slide back down! Can`t wait to get there and practice everything and hopefully smash a bit of pow. Can you do a vid on how to be parted from your pooch for 2 weeks ? thanks. Steve

Can you do a video about how to NOT get super tired on the slope? I often find my legs burning easily on the slope, so much so that I need to sit down take a break every couple hundred yards or so. I don’t think I’m that out of shape. What are some of the technique’s that can make snowboarding a bit more enjoyable and not so tiring?

Workout during off season muscles and movements used during snowboarding. You can be in super shape, lifting weights, doing calisthenics or any other discipline and still struggle on snowboard. I had similar situation: 3x a week calisthenics workout, lean and in shape yet my legs were super tired during snowboarding. During off season I focused on cycling long distances and running long distances + surfing and it helped me a ton.

Another great vid MM. I try to tie them all together and it's coming along but I'm still having issues on the steep blue runs. Skidded turns are exhausting me and shorten my day on the mountain. Hi Malcolm I know it’s your off season but when you have a chance to film I’d love some insight on how to transition into steeper/more difficult runs without being afraid of the higher speed. While I’m (mostly) in control of my S turns, when I try steeper runs the extra speed scares me so I just end up sitting on my heel edge and skidding down the hill. How would you advise someone moves safely into trying harder/steeper terrain?

Hello, Malcom. I've been checking all of your videos before my trip to France 1 week ago. I think you really helped me to improve my smoothness haha. I realized that I'm still scared about skiers coming behind me. I'm checking behind me really often. Is that common? @malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 2 жыл бұрын
If you're in front you have the priority, legally as well if there was an incident. However this doesn't necessarily change the fact that you don't want to get hit by someone! I am often checking up the slope to see where people are, particularly when I'm on my toe edge because it's easier to look up then too. As you get better you will be going faster too so therefore there will be less people will be overtaking you. Not sure where in the world you are but I have seen some crazy busy slopes in America, it doesn't really get like that here to be honest!

Hi Malcolm. Just quick question. Are you leaning back a little when doin the start of the toe edge? Or you just keep your mass centered at all times? Looks too me that you push the board a little away when transitioning on the toe edge.
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
Quite possibly yes, the camera does warp the view a little bit and always makes the front leg look a little longer, but essentially once the edge change has been made, so long as conditions are grippy, there's no harm in shifting a little weight to the back foot and driving the board through the turn from there.

Hi Malcolm! I've learned a ton from your videos and your advice has really helped me progress this season (finally being comfortable s-turning down entire green runs)! I hope this is a good place to put this question, as I am wondering if you have any advice on "dropping in" on one's first blue hill. I am terrified of pointing my board down the hill (and always end up with too much weight on the back foot for a bad start to everything), so when I see the steeper parts of a blue run I just chicken out and end up slide slipping until I get to a more mellow section where I am comfortable pointing my board down the hill to initiate that first turn. My question is, is there another way to drop into a easy blue before that first turn?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
You've just got to get comfortable keeping your upper body perpendicular to the board, so when it points down the slope you need to point down the slope with it! Make sure you're making an edge change before the fall line, as this will stop you feeling like you're out of control, and you can work on this on the mellow slopes beforehand, you seem to know what you're doing wrong, so just build up your confidence and then you'll get there!
@yiyangliu4907
@yiyangliu4907 Жыл бұрын
@@malcolmmoore Thank you for the encouragements!! I'll try out your advice in this video on my next run by leaning back to turn my side slip into a traverse across the blue hill first, focusing on putting weight in that front leg!

With brand new boots I do leave a small gap to allow for ankle flexion, but after a few days even stiff boots should have softened up to allow you to bend into them, so yes I would have them pretty snug at the top!

Been trying your methods on making a line for the S turns, but I was told it might be harder for me as I have a flat camber/rocker board. Is that true?

Other than that, I CAN do solid wide S turns and tighter ones. Just no like on the ice
