Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu asked India to withdraw all Indian military personnel deployed in the Indian Ocean archipelago by March 15. This after senior officials of the two countries met in Male to discuss the issue amid strained bilateral ties. The meeting was held against the backdrop of a dramatic downturn in bilateral relations since the election victory last year of Muizzu, who has sought to move the Maldives closer to China. @@cimonkien9833 US knows Russia is a time tested friend of India but still tries to have good relationship with India to counter China, India is a giver to US in terms of brains, So there is no backstabbing concept as US in no longer a viable destination for low cost services so it seems India as investment destination for growth and returns but it is not the case with Maldives as India playes a great role in their nation building with out expecting returns,there is a great distinction between US and Maldives.

The current Maldivian government may have more reasons than one to want to strain, even break ties with India, and the principal one is probably how much its new leaders earned by breaking with India. No prizes for guessing who the banker is. I wonder how by how much Muizzu's and his party netas' bank accounts would have inflated by now. The attitude of the Muizzu gang is exactly that adopted by those tiny kingdoms in 17th century India that ceded territory and pandered to the British East India Company, and we know where that lead to. China is the present day Company and its debt-deal policies have been taken out of the East India Company textbooks. Maldives has just signed its own death warrant. India is not the U.S.A. even if Maldives wants to resemble Cuba, but Modiji is not a lesser man than JFK. If ever Maldives opens its knees to Chinese soldiers, warships and missiles, we will know what to do.

If the Maldives receives aid from India, it is necessary to have Indian troops stationed, and national policies must follow India. So these pitiful aid are the noose around the Maldives' neck. It is important to handle relations between countries according to normal relations. Maldives is not an Indian territory. Nepal is a negative textbook.

The Maldivians are not wrong to ask for a withdrawal. They are certainly a bit racist perhaps there is some complex but where there is military presence, there is a negative impact on civilian life. Just look at Okinawa, Iwakuni and Pyeongtaek as reference points

India has had an embassy in the Maldives for about 40 years, China for less the 10. If the president of the country sends emissaries to 3 nations and none to India …… the writing is on the wall regarding Indian influence over Maldives. We have seen a somewhat similar results with Sri Lanka and elsewhere. If India is losing influence in its neighbourhood it is due to past decisions New Delhi made.
