He changed it because the snooty wizard club pretty much told him the only chance he had in winning was to move the date up. Max did however realize he was wrong to trust them and went back to change the date back to the original day.

i kinda dislike this episode. if i remember correctly they dragged out this mini max gag for way too long. so we never saw jake t Austin for some time. i did enjoy the conscience episodes. atleast we know how he thinks.
