Male Wood Duck calling, I'm not sure why, his hen was with him. He kept looking at a tall tree, might be their nest. They flew off together and landed at the top one of the tallest trees on the pond. The Male call is a thin, rising and falling zeeting whistle. Drake Wood Duck at North Pond Nature Sanctuary, Lincoln Park, Chicago.

We have a female wood duck that has been around are farm for 6 months. It was only about a day old and got lost and it has been here ever since. It follows the kids around and they pick it up and put it on their shoulders. Always greets us on the deck in the morning looking to eat with the chickens.

Wood duck calls usually sound like the hen. They so that loud squawking sound

Thanks for this great video! I have had a pair of Wood Ducks on my lake for the past 3 winter months, which is unusual in my area of Northeast Ohio. They sometimes stay in the back of a cove where I can't see them, but I keep hearing that whistle. The Sibley app doesn't really match like your video does. I was never positive it wasn't one of the many Mallards, so thanks!

Such a beautiful duck! I accidentally shot 2 out of season because they looked like teal from the distance i shot at. I was so upset to give them to the game warden because i have always wanted to mount one. Im hoping to get one next season because they are absolutely stunning

@@Justanothercrow123 just say you don’t know anything about wildlife conservation instead of typing all that. No one appreciates these birds more than we do. You clearly don’t understand the importance of harvesting and how the system works and how well balanced it is and how important it is. You cant let the emotions get the best of you. Just because they are beautiful doesn’t mean they are rare. They keep vary good track on population and how many need to be taken to keep a healthy ecosystem. If we left it up to yall the wildlife would be fucked and extinction would run rampant.
