@@trevorfrenk4137 Bad writing. She's the strong powerful leader of the undefeated Moors army & he knew her since they were kids... yet he expected her to do nothing after he betrayed and mutilated her?? Another plot hole is there's no reason he or anyone would logically think some severed wings (that could be from any fairy or any winged creature) would be proof that he killed Maleficent, unlike a severed head. Another plot hole is when Maleficent proves he's an illegitimate king, when she literally walks right into his throne room, yet again no one challenges him or questions it or explains it. Stefan took her wings to become king, a show of strength and testament to the former king. He thought he would get away with it but this scene was his true test, the test of the real courage and bravery of a king. When Maleficent was cursing Aurora, everyone was looking to him to do something but instead of intervening, he begged maleficent to not do it. A show of what a coward he truly is.

The meaning behind a man clipping a fairies wings makes his cowardice truly shine, his applauded exploitation of a fairy in her sleep, in fact, rewarded by the king, makes this film really mean something. The way I see it, she should never have cursed aurora, even she knew that, I think maleficent should have at least killed him, but moreso than that cursed him to never be with his family, title or life ever again.

I love how she performs a clapback at Stefan by saying that the only way to reverse the curse is by True Love's Kiss. It's not only supposed to remind Stefan of the love they once shared, but also to represent how she no longer believes in the power of love itself. Because of how he betrayed her, she's left so heartbroken and distrusting that she can't even open up her heart or mind to the idea of love again. She believes so little in it that she thinks that Aurora's curse would never be lifted because true love doesn't exist in her eyes. This added reversal part is also a reference that only Stefan would understand; he's the one who told her about True Love's Kiss, but he's also the one who broke her heart and betrayed her. By doing this, Stefan is forced to remember the moments from his youth that he and Maleficent shared, as his daughter's curse reversal literally relies on the very thing that he once gifted Maleficent.

People hate this movie but I love it for one reason. It shows what true love is. Not some stupid relationship our our prince. I wish more people understood this but no they want relationships so desperately and when they get them they get rid of everyone who loved them prior to the relationship. So having her bonding with the princess and then being the key to undoing the curse and not some prince was brilliant.
@SarastistheSerpent5 жыл бұрын
No it’s not. It stupid. The original was an archetype, not a literal story. Maleficent represents nature. The Princess Aurora represents the human subconscious. Prince Philip represents humans experience and consciousness. It’s not a romantic relationship between 2 people. It’s a relationship within a single archetypal figure.

@asz-themoonwalker27714 жыл бұрын
He did it for power and wealth, if she showed up earlier.. he would be busted - she is alive, he just cut off her wings. That's not exactly what the King wanted. He broke her heart. She was broken and literaly weak. Can't expect that she will just get up to bring back what belongs to her. She became sad, cold and harsh - like many humans would be. Her normal human reactions sopped her from going for fadt "Heartbroken Fairy Revange". After some time she had strenght and found way to hurt him back. It's not really plothole. He is just stupid and ignorant. She is more human than we think.
@PyroDrew4 жыл бұрын
@ASZ - The MoonWalker. Except that would make Stefan not just a little stupid, but borderline mentally retarded stupid... like pulling on a tiger's tail stupid. If we assume Stefan was that stupid that only further widens the already big power gap between him & Maleficent. Maleficent was a powerful fairy with super-human strength, rapid self-healing and various magic powers (curses, telekinesis, lightning storms, shape-shifting, etc) who led superior armies of magical creatures. Stefan was not only a physically weaker crazy mortal with no magic powers who led inferior weaker armies who always lost, but now he's also borderline mentally retarded stupid? The movie is like Godzilla (Maleficent) vs. a very stupid Bambi (Stefan).

A random evil fairy going around cursing babies over jealousy BUT still gave the baby a chance to wake up and have true love along with immortality as long as she was sleep, I see some sympathy there in the original and not just a simple evil fairy. Or maybe Maleficent wanting to see if true loves kiss does exist because she never had true love. And this is exactly why the Maleficent movie was needed villians need more backstories and not just go around cursing babies over not receiving invitations and be known as "the most evil".

Something I just noticed on my most recent viewing of this great movie and this scene: The curse was made to, in a couple different ways, reflect Stefan's past betrayals of Maleficent. Think about it: 1. The curse against Aurora will come to pass "On her sixteenth birthday..." Maleficent and Stefan had their first kiss on her sixteenth birthday. 2. "She will fall into a sleep like death..." A forced sleep, a LOT like how Stefan drugged Maleficent with a sleeping potion in order to then cut off her wings.

Angelina really was the perfect fit for Maleficent. The condescension and pettiness is just gold. Stephan really did deserve it though. He basically stole Maleficent’s identity, as relied on her wings to assist her in protecting the Moors. Without them, she couldn’t get anywhere as quickly as she would’ve liked due to seemingly inability to teleport, something that was different from the original. The curse also parallels Maleficent in a whole lot of ways. During Stephan’s “true love’s kiss” scene, not only was Maleficent 16, but the kiss also happened as the sun was setting. Everything here just works and flows so naturally, makes sense since with the original, we could never get this level of characterization.
@PyroDrew Жыл бұрын
Angelina really was the perfect fit for Maleficent and I also agree Stephan really did deserve it, but baby Aurora did not deserve it. Maleficent knew Stefan cursed her for the crown, power and wealth... yet for 16+years Maleficent let Stefan keep & have fun with all the reasons he betrayed & mutilated her... meanwhile she instead went crazy evil to target an innocent baby. Also, this story makes Maleficent's "true love's kiss" curse counter-productive. If Stefan or his wife didn't "truly love" Aurora then the curse didn't truly hurt them and if either one did "truly love" Aurora then even their kiss would cure Aurora... Maleficent didn't know anything about Aurora's birth mother so Maleficent got unusually lucky since I would wager most new mothers do "truly love" their babies. Second, Maleficent obviously implied romantic love, but in her curse she only used the word "love" so "friendship love" even works. Yet, it's crazy for Maleficent to believe "true romantic love" doesn't exist based only on her sample size of 1 ex-boyfriend, who she knew was a poor loser thief who had nothing going for him. The original doesn't have those problems, among others.
@thalasowo33736 ай бұрын
@@PyroDrewI think the curse really took a toll on the parents, especially Stefan. He went insane, constantly visiting the wings and even talking to it to the point that when his wife asked to see him before she passes, he ignored and continued to stare at the wings. Even when Aurora came back, he just shunned and continued to go in his crazy plan to finally kill Maleficent. He still dies tho, which he deserved.
@PyroDrew6 ай бұрын
@@thalasowo3373 Stefan was definitely crazy. At the end of the movie he tries attacking Maleficent, who is a super-strong rapid-healing powerful fairy with vast magical powers, with a mere dagger. It's comical. Seconds earlier he even saw the iron chain on her which not only didn't severe her leg/ankle after carrying an adult man in full plate armor, but she didn't even have a walking limp after that. Iron was more of a minor inconvenience for her in this film and Stefan more than anyone should have known her true weakness was drugs which he successfully used against her earlier. That aside, on the topic of deserving, if Stefan deserved death for mutilating Maleficent then Maleficent didn't get her punishment for deliberately putting an innocent child in a coma which she believed there was no cure. As well as for kidnapping Phillip against his will and being a creepy child stalker to someone else's kid for ~15years. Can you imagine if some creepy human living in the woods was able to adopt someone else's child who they deliberately attacked and put in a coma after stalking the child for years? It's absurd. And Maleficent was the only individual around when the child's father "accidentally" died, yet Aurora just blindly believes Maleficent despite knowing Maleficent's history of deceiving her.
@thalasowo33736 ай бұрын
@@PyroDrew I do agree with you about Maleficent's very very questionable action. Do you think if she was never betrayed by Stefan she would've loved Aurora, giving gifts without the curse? She was scorned but even grief she shouldn't have eve done that. Her seeking revenge is understandable but what is not good is her directing that anger at an innocent child. Although I feel like Aurora was a symbolism of Maleficent's innocence. Maleficent was naive and gullible in which Stefan took advantage of to get the crown then eventually he had Aurora. Stefan had Aurora by destroying Maleficent's innocence and taking advantage of her kindness. What Maleficent did is reasonable but it's not excusable.
@PyroDrew6 ай бұрын
@@thalasowo3373 Well Aurora was blessed/cursed to be "beloved by all who know her", so that implies everyone and everything, including Maleficent, with or without Stefan betraying Maleficent. I agree her seeking revenge is understandable, but Maleficent knew Stefan sacrificed love for power and wealth before, so there's no guarantee he wouldn't do the same to Aurora after the curse either. Therefore, attacking baby Aurora was not only evil and inexcusable, but unreasonable and illogical given what she knew of Stefan. Maleficent was still the innocent victim after Stefan attacked her, but she lost her innocence after she attacked baby Aurora. Maleficent and Stefan didn't just do 1 bad thing once, but throughout the entire movie both couldn't stop being jerks and doing several bad things.
