I was married to my wife for 3 years before she died. The same way the boy longed to be with her, the way he dreamed of her with the beautiful Ennio Morricone in the back is how i dream of my wife everyday. She was a gift sent from heaven and our love couldn’t be more perfect. I hold every memory of her in my heart as i listen to this beautiful song. Oh how i wish i could have her once more.

I'm an old guy and think similar to yourself, where has it all gone? Spent time in Italy as a young man and you can almost feel all those emotions when walking around such locations. Those times were full of emotion, the souls of people meant something, far too difficult to explain or describe but understood by those of that era. I still miss it! Europe, the world of 2024, knows not of such things and feelings, the power of within, the value of our souls, the simplicity of life, all seems to have been buried beneath greed, self interest, ego, things etc. The saving grace in my final years is that I experienced those times and all they offered and fed us humans. A time that will never come again, I bow my head in the gratitude I retain for having walked through such times and amongst such people :)

Now, almost 10 years later, as a grown woman, I don’t know that I would be able to sit through the entire film again. There’s a perfect word to describe this feeling in Russian, душераздирающий, which has no equivalent in English. Literally translated, it would be “soul-shattering”. That’s how I feel when thinking about this movie. It is beautiful and I’m glad it exists, but Malena’s fate is just so heartbreaking.
