“At the time, Dogon country alone received over 100,000 visitors a year. Hotel arrivals amounted to over 300,000. This was the fast period, there were Americans, French, Chinese, Canadians, Spaniards and Italians. There were a lot of them, it was really a popular destination. Given the security and health crises, this clientele is virtually absent from Mali now. And that's a problem.”

Mali’s historic central city of Djenne is known for its striking mud mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest mud-brick building in the world.
Once a lure for hundreds of thousands of tourists, the town has been threatened by conflict for over a decade which has decimated the tourism industry and left its people in dire poverty.
STORYLINE:
Since Mali’s conflict began in 2012, Kola Bah has been largely unemployed.
