Hey mechanic here. So that 11mm you pointed out is a pressure port (up high). The overflow plug is by the axle on the drivers side. The CVT takes about 7.5 qts. Did my drain and fill procedure yesterday.

You have an oil spot just for the cvt? I've never even heard of a cvt transmission until i got a 2019 Malibu less than a month ago and the dealership didn't tell me this car had a cvt transmission until after the paperwork was done

Just keep the receipt when you buy the oil, write down the mileage when you do the job. They can't void your warranty for you doing it yourself, it's standard maintenance Don't believe what the dealership says, they just want your money

I have a 2019 Malibu with 183K miles, the car was accelerating kind of rough, and I just bought it, I decided to change the transmission CVT fluid, it was near black, probably never been changed, I put new fluid and it fixed it, drives like new, so yes the CVT transmissions can last as long as you keep changing the fluid every 40 K miles

Hey bro, I just did this today and I drained 4.5 quarts and added the same. I found the 11mm overflow as well and never got it to drain after I drove it around. Long story short, I found that there is another 11mm overflow next to the driver side axel; turn your wheel left and look, you will see it. Im trying that one tomorrow to see if I see any results.

There's also a filter on top of the transmission, when you do this the 3 times it recommends make sure to change that as well

When draining the fluid after running it for ten minutes did you drain the excess fluid while the car was on or off? I didn’t hear you say anything about that in the vid. And should this work on a 2020 Malibu with a 1.5 liter engine?

I drove it, turned it off and opened up the top valve to make sure I didn't add to much And yes all 1.5L with a cvt transmission

It's worth a try, if you do it yourself it's not very much money. Do you know if they did a drain and fill, or a complete transmission flush?

It lists in the manual to change it at 45k. And the external filter too. Hopefully they changed that. A new one allows better flow to the pump

I’m at 89,000 miles 2020 Malibu on the same fluid. I’m worried to change it out that it won’t work the same as before. Is it too late for me to change it? Do you recommend I do it the same as in this video. I just don’t want my car to be messed up from not changing it either. I didn’t do it at 45k miles because I was told it was a lifetime fluid

Whats the temp spec and why are you not on level ground ???
@NWCPcbenchmarks5 ай бұрын
Because it's just a drain and fill, you're never going to get all the oil out of a transmission like this, this is why you NEED to do this 3 times every 5-8000 miles next 2 oil changes after. If you'd like to do it level go for it, just put in what comes out

Think the book says every 80,000km and after that every oil change for the next two oil changes After that you're good again until the next 80,000 or so There is also a filter at the top of the CVT that should be changed I'm doing mine the last change so it's new with all new oil
