Great video. I also have a 03 VLX with the manual wedge. Im considering upgrading to the floating wedge. Did you notice any improvements in the surf wake with the floating wedge ?

Hi Steve. I took it out last weekend for the first time after this upgrade. I was super impressed. It was so easy to deploy the wedge and bring it back up. I used to cut my fingers a lot with the old manual wedge. The pins would pinch you. There was only 3 friends that knew how to deploy and bring it back up, leaving me to do it most of the time. Now with the new design I think anyone can do it after showing them one time!!! But improvements for me and my particular situation. Well worth the money for me.

Nice video. The main bolts that mount the foil to the bracket, you spun those in by hand and then with a wrench. Were the holes in the bracket actually threaded or was it just a tight fit for the bolts to slide in?

It felt like they were threaded when I first put it in, but I think it was just tight tolerances. You can see that later in the video I spun it with the impact drill, and there’s no threads at the top end of that bolt. And so it is held in place by a nylon nut on the backside. So short answer is no it’s not threaded until it gets to the nylon bolt.

Yes. Maybe slightly better. It’s really hard to quantify without seeing them side my side. It’s so much easier to use now. I always dreaded the manual wedge.

Hi, i want to build one wedge upgrade like this in brazil to adapt a 25 boat that we are using, can you tell me the dimensions of the complete wedge? And its adjustable? as I can see in the video, the lower hole cant fit in the adjustable locker of the foil; I want to make it better for wakeboard and try wakesurf! what you can tell me about these upgrade;

No, not advised. Should be in the up position above wake board speeds (23mph) max I think.

Hi Jake, what is the ballast set up you have to get the wake surf wave shown in your videos?

Ballast is the WakeMakers tank buster retrofit kit. Basically it fills the entire rear lockers with two big bags. Then I have a center ski locker with the stock bag. And then 200 pounds of lead in the very front of the nose. And wake shaper. See my video on those if interested. What boat do you have?

@@fixitwithjake I have pretty much the same boat 2003 Wakesetter VLX, 400 lbs bags in each rear locker, stock center ski locker, 540 lb bag in the bow floor to pass through and a Swell H3X + wake shaper. My goofy side wave looks pretty good, the regular side wave has just enough push to keep you in the wave with 3--4 people sitting on the surf side. Where do you place your shaper? I have mine so the face is inline with the "wakesetter" logo and and as low on side of the boat as possible?

@@PhilSiri That should be a great setup. I slap our waker shaper on 50/50 in the water and out of the water when boat is sitting still. I never worry about where it is forward or backwards. It seems to not matter much on mine. It is most important to keep our boat sitting level and not listing to any one side.

@@PhilSiri if you put your wake shaper about 3-4 feet from the back of the boat you should get more push out of the wake. My friend has a 2011 SAN 230 and does that to help out on is wake. Not for sure if it will help out on your boat but is will be worth a shot to try it.

Not that I know of. I agree, it’s pricey! But I think Malibu has a patented on the design so no one else can make them. Look for a used one on eBay maybe? But trust me, this item is quality and works very well.
