This video is a follow up to the video that we made comparing a Malibu MXZ and a Nautique G23 to a Centurion Ri257 looking at fuel economy and power. If you would like to check them out you can see each of them here:

There were a number of people that were concerned that the information wasn't valid because the Malibu MXZ we used in the video was a 2016 model and the 2017 model changed both the hull and the drivetrain of the boat. As you can imagine, getting current model boats to do this kind of testing is difficult, REALLY difficult. We made the offer to run our fuel flow rate Diacom test on any manufacturer’s current model year towboat, but had no takers.
Well, it didn’t take long for us to take a 2017 Malibu 24 MXZ in on trade for a new Centurion. Of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to compare the test results of the new hull and powertrain on the 2017 vs the Ri257. The Malibu MXZ has the current hull and powertrain system, making a side by side comparison unarguably accurate. So we geared up and hit the lake with an equally equipped Centurion Ri257.
Both of the boats in this test have supercharged 550 horsepower engines, stock ballast settings, and are propped appropriately for the elevation we run our boats at (5,417ft). The Centurion Ri257 has a 1.72:1 transmission gear ratio and a 16x15” prop, while the Malibu has a 2:1 gear ratio (possibly a 1.76:1 - getting the proper information here has been difficult to verify) and a 17x14” prop.
We would like to reiterate, this isn’t an analysis of the subjective aspects of the boats, i.e. surf wave comparison, drive-ability, and anything that can’t be represented by numbers. These are cold hard facts, baby.
Here is the setup that we ran on each of the boats including their size, weight, ballast, etc.:
Centurion Ri257
Boat Length - 25′ 7″
Boat Weight - 6,150 lbs.
Ballast Weight - 5,100 lbs.
Total Weight - 11,250 lbs.
Lake Elevation - 5,417 feet
Engine - PCM XR7
Engine HP - 550
Malibu 24MXZ
Boat Length - 24′ 5″
Boat Weight - 5,500 lbs.
Ballast Weight - 3,000 lbs. + Wedge
Total Weight - 8,500 lbs. (10,000 lbs. if factoring wedge at 100% deployment)
Lake Elevation - 5,417 feet
Engine - Indmar Monsoon 575
Engine HP - 550

Great videos. Trying to decide which boat to buy and this helps. Although the wave on the Malibu looks twice the size of the centurion. Both great boats. Is that sound the Malibu is making normal?

Curious about adding a Mastercraft and supra boat into these comparisons? So far its just the 3; centurion, nautique, and malibu.Also, it sounds like the centurion has the quietest engine? correct? thanks.

The Centurion definitely is the quietest. We would be happy to add other boats to the comparisons however the most difficult part about doing these is getting the boats to compare. Really the only way we are able to do that is when we get them in on trade.

we only got a quick look at mailbus wakes. but i stopped the video and made a comparison of waves. the standard setup brings the better wave on the mailbu as from what i can judge from the video. also with the wedge the mailbu wave looks a lot taller. to me it looks as the malibus puts out a wave without wedge that is as tall as the centurion with all tools used and full loaded.. it be good to acutally show the waves on both boat along with the current fuel consumption. its quiet easy to set this up in a side by side video. i have the impression that the comparison is not done right. i also read many forums where centurion owners wrote their fuel consumption and its not less or at least not much less. one even was a previous owner of a 21vtx and on the newer centurion he had 2 gallons more. so im quiet critical when it comes to neutral comparison - not sure who you support here.. Ps. we didnt see the ballast in the centurion which you showed us in the mailbu. also not very professional to critisise noise development subconciously while testing fuel consumption... even though i dont doubt that the centurion is a not as loud.

Hi Mitch and Boardco, TY for your videos, please keep producing them. I think it may be time for an updated video focused on fuel consumption. How about a 2020 Centurion Ri257 with a 525 HP motor and a 2020 Natique G23 with a 525 HP motor (or a Paragon) and a 2020 Malibu M240 with a 607 HP (LT4) motor? To get started, here is a 2020 Malibu M240 with the new supercharged LT4 showing fuel consumption with full ballast (all 6 hard tanks full) 10.8 MPH, wedge position 3 and surf right - showing fuel consumption. photos.google.com/search/_tra_/photo/AF1QipMgvP4A9HqFizDqELz7R5SPo3FVLVbTnOQyxXRe

We'd love to do an updated video compared against these other boats. The most challenging thing about doing them is getting access to the boats we can do the comparisons with. Getting access to a few of these (paragon, M240, etc.) is VERY difficult as there are only a handful of them out there and most are in the hands of dealers that obviously aren't very excited about us showing the fuel efficiency of their boats.

We have that exact setup in our Malibu same 575 hp and the most fuel we have ever burned is 12 GPH. I wonder what the difference is.
@BoardCo
@BoardCo 5 жыл бұрын
If you are averaging 12 GPH that would be correct. Average GPH is roughly 1/2 the use while underway since you spend a bit of time picking up riders, idling around, etc. The average GPH on the Ri257 ends up at around 5-7 GPH.

Right but when we burned 12 gph the boat was fully loaded down full ballast and 10 on board. We usually are around 6-7 gph if it’s just 3 to 4 guys. I was just saying that’s the most we have ever burned

Who the hell surfs at 14mph???

Not us! Both of these boats were going 11mph. Was there anything implied we were going faster?
