The beauty of these dogs is they are protective by nature and don’t need to be highly trained to be vicious, they definitely can be but only need to be trained as to their place in the pack as the protector and companion and nature will do the rest. I got my first Belgium malinios in 1985 as a rescue dog, I literally found him in a busy parking lot not far from a military base he was obviously in distress so I spoke with the store owner and agreed to take him home until the owner could be found long story but I was absolutely amazed at the intelligence and loyalty of this dog and have had a few others over the years

My GSD was trained as a protection dog and did 'suit work' as shown here with the guy dressed in special gear. My neighbours didn't tell me that they were having some fencing redone in the corner of our properties, they paid for it, and when I got home from work I said to the fencing guy "How was the dog? Didn't anything happen?" He looked at me funny. "What dog?" He said. I whistled and he saw my 95lb working like GSD come over and just stare at him, waiting for me to say her 'attack' prompt.

I’ve had three LGD’s (Great Pyrenees.) Two have passed away and I currently have a Great Pyrenees Akbash mix. They are extremely protective, but one difference is if they perceive a threat I wouldn’t be able to call them off. They were bred to be independent and they are extremely good at knowing true threats from a Girl Scout selling cookies. They are the sweetest dogs until you threaten their family. They won’t bother company but they are naturally suspicious of strangers. I’ve always felt safe with my guardian dogs by my side. It has always amazed me how loving and friendly they are to children and small animals.

Awe bless. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and it’s been tough. My narcissistic daughter has told me that (despite me only telling 3 family members as of now, but someone shared the info with her before I could) she does not believe that I have cancer. I don’t feel that someone who would choose to be that way and further bring hurt to a devastating situation is worthy of taking the time to literally prove it to her via paperwork. I would have never expected a child I carried, birthed, delivered, and nurtured to do something like that and it has made me feel so very alone in this fight. If I end up in a terminal situation with this or anything complicating it during treatment, it would be a huge comfort to know that a medicated planned death was an option should I wish it. I’m not afraid to go- my dad and grandparents and many others I love and grieve are there and to see them again would be a beautiful thing when it is my time. Praying for your friend and her family.

Separated from the guy. He says “aw, all dogs love me” and grabbed the door handle and had the door open before I could react. All u could hear was the low growls of both of my dogs lol. As I got the door slammed shut, my female lunged at the guy through the screen and broke the door. She watched me thank god….and sat calmly once he backed the hell up a bit but they never stopped growling. Looking back on it, it seemed innocent enough but I still wonder if maybe he had nefarious intent. My dogs aren’t usually snappy like that unless I ask them to be.

Amazing dogs 🐕 ,they are wonderful but need proper training by a careful, confident handler. Dogs need to be bred well, you don't want inbreeding = unstable temperament, or breeding for aggression. Good guard dogs need to have a natural instinct of when to attack and how much force to use. They read 📚 a situation, plus if the owner is highly strung and sees everything as a threat, the dog is more likely to attack. Eg when my mother walked our shepherd he was way more vigilant and would snap at at little yip-yaps that would snap at him. (Those were the days when dogs wondered the streets in Australia) When I walked him (off the leash) , l was secretly hoping that he would teach them a lesson, but he just turned around & gave me a pained expression. I trusted him absolutely . If a bigger dog ever went for him, he'd have it on it's back in 5 seconds, holding it down till it conceded defeat. He knew how much force was needed ❤

I have a Throwback 30+ lb Pomeranian and taught him to be a guard dog. He's not fully like a GSD breed but does great at chasing off coyotes which that is what his breed of the Spitz breed does. I still catch him guarding me from my husband whenever my husband does a mock kick or hit from behind me, my dog uses his body as a shield. He did go after one guy who was lost after pulling up our driveway when I was outside with the dogs and getting mad at me and yelling at me because I didn't know where the mechanic shop was he was looking for. Guy opened his truck door and I let my dog loose who made a B-Line for that man barking and snarling. He came back in command when I told him too. My MIL was home alone with my dog and called up because my dog scared her when he jumped off the couch and crawled along the floor in a low growl at the door. She called us ASAP and we told her to turn on all the lights and make sure all the windows and doors were locked. A few nights ago I heard the front door shutting which was odd to hear at that hour. Before I could even react my dog was already in stealth mode and was running in a crouch and being quiet as he ran to the front door to see why it shut. Thing is, my dog makes noise and barks, but he was purposely being quiet to sneak. Even surprised me because I never taught him to crouch like that. When he realized it was my FIL who came through the door he came back to me wagging his tail. Floors everyone that my dog acts like that because he's small and not a guard breed. I grew up with trained Rottweilers that were the family guard dogs. So the next I got my own dog after getting married was a Throwback Pomeranian because the family I married into likes Pomeranians. They didn't know Pomeranians could be 30+ lbs.
