Love that you're using a big target. So many folks shoot at the turkey head target and say "my pattern sucks" when in all actuality it may be a great pattern ,their POI may be off from the POA.

The Federal 8-10 TSS are absolutely the shell for my gun which is a Tristar 20 ga viper with a carlson LB choke. I have patterned them out to 50 with very a dense pattern. Likewise these shells performed equally as well in my Beretta A400 20 gauge(stolen out of my truck) last year. it is unreal how these shells perform.

This process is not designed for chrome line barrels . Which he has . I’m not saying you can’t .... but the chrome lining is super hard . It allows you run a barrel much cleaner for much longer . The chrome lining isn’t prone to shot scarring near as badly as a steel barrel. In his circumstance where the gun was used as a waterfowl gun and shot a whole whole lot, I understand why he did it

You removed your chole...what about the threads? Wouldn't it be better to put a cylinder bore choke in there to protect the threads? Or leave the choke in to clean it up?
@TheNaturalCalling
@TheNaturalCalling 3 жыл бұрын
With the fine steel wool and slow drill speeds, I have never found the threads to be damaged. On the contrary, chokes screwed in easier because the threads were deep cleaned In the process. Hope this helps!

Yes been doing this for years on shotgun chambers, especially if your having eject problems ,on cheaper shotguns they come from the factory with a non polished chamber to keep cost down skipping this step. If you notice on high-end shotguns they have a mirror finish in the chamber and barrel. Also if your shooting cheap target low brass they sometimes get sticky in the chamber after firing, this polishing helps that. But be careful on chrome lined barrels with the steel wool, chrome is thin and if done to long you could break threw the chrome coating, remember your just polishing, and with the drill don't let it get to hot. If your doing an old steel barrel that not chromed lined and has some pitting from rust you can put Fitz polishing compound on the steel wool and get nice and shiny... also leave your choke tube in so you don't damage the threads in the barrel. I worked with an old gunsmith years ago and we done this a lot you be surprised of how many people just don't clean there guns and let rust take over. We had a doctor customer one time who just left his Browning A5 in the duck blind until next season, crazy but true and that was a job to clean that one and if it rusted beyond repair he just buy another and leave it at the duck blind untill next year.. oh well it just money right! Anyway good video.

I polished the bore and chamber on my Mossberg 500 w/ a 28" vent rib cut down to 20" and it is measurably more accurate now with rifles slugs and 00. The amount and directionality of drag affecting performance inside even a cylinder bore was surprising!

The method I used for polishing was to dip a chamber mop in Mother's Mag put that on a carbon fiber rod and chucked it into a power drill, took about 20 minutes of polish/inspect/repeat.

That hoppes lubricating oil in the little orange bottle is good stuff but watch out if you’re going to use it on your gun in real cold weather. I had my shotgun out with my brother the other day we were testing turkey loads and it snowed and iced and was 12degrees out. After 15 minutes it started getting sticky, after 30 it froze up the lube and was sticking the action so bad it wouldn’t fully cycle even 3 1/2inch goose loads that I know cycle it everytime. But it is very slick and good stuff when it ain’t froze lol

@@TheNaturalCalling no problem just putting it out there cause when you need your gun to work you need it to work. And those early morning duck hunts and sometimes turkey hunts get wicked cold. Keep up the good work on the channel man you do a great job. Especially like the turkey hunts and your 12gauge pattern test it was a good one👍🏻 maybe a cheap lead load compared vid just to see compared to longbeard (nitro turkey, federal strut shok, Kent turkey)??

Shooting Apex, a wad-stripping choke is usually best, and that load loves a 562-570. The Feds like a non-wad-stripping choke, like a Pure Gold or Jebs, and in a 550-560. Just my 2 cents. The #6 LBXR shoots well in all of them. I have an SX3 20ga with a Sumtoy 562 without strippers, that puts almost 100% of the pattern in a 10" circle with GT-20 #8. It also likes a federal #7. Ya never know what will work best.

Traditionally #9 shot was used for clay pigeons. I’m surprised at the lethality of the small shot. I used to like to use #9 shot in my .410 when I dove hunted as a kid because it gave me more shot to hit the birds. In the old days people that turkey hunted with a .410 used #7-1/2 shot. Worked very good. What’s the benefit of the tungsten over lead?
@TheNaturalCalling
@TheNaturalCalling 3 жыл бұрын
So the tungsten is alot heavier than the lead. Tungsten is 18 gr/cc compared to lead being 11 gr/cc. In turn, the tungsten is hitting so much harder than lead that it adds a huge benefit in lethality.

I have never had any damage to them. As a matter of fact it cleaned some grit out of there. I wouldn't advise holding the drill there for an overly long time or damage may possibly occur. As any Trap shooter knows, bzrrels can become fouled with plastic residue from repeated firing of plastic wads over time. They generally use stainless steel Tornado (spiral) bore brushes to remove that. The problem I have with boe snakes is that as they age and become dirty you're dragging old gunk and grit through a barrel you're attempting to clean. Never made any sense to me.

@@ryanharkins9383 Sounds like you keep good maintenance. You should be fine. There is a difference between cleaning and polishing however.
