My mom works at Weinershnitzel and she's 78 years old. She's the same way. 🤣🤣 We kinda feel bad for her but she loves working around weenies and fries. Lmfao!

I wish cashiers would tell off those kind of customers who have to barge on in and ask a question or two of the cashier while helping another customer, similar to the way hamburger lady and tea stain on the rug do here.

I like how Mama failed at the job on purpose to cut the tension in her household and between her and Naomi. Thelma knew what she needed to do. 😂

@sha11235 Me neither. I think she was getting fed up with snooty and needy customers. Two people interrupted her while she was helping a customer each time, something that I get annoyed with myself.

This show is so funny, and became even more funny after Bubba joined the cast. I watched every ep when new, during the 1980s. This is one of several eps that is really hilarious. Naomi looked best without that perm, like how she looks in this ep. Thelma screwed up on purpose so Naomi could get her old job back. This show is pure Eighties.

Yeah, I also would like to ask the same questions that others have here. How could Thelma work a register and be "Ask Thelma" both at the same time like that? Did Palmer also expect her to work everyday the week including weekends? Lastly, it's good to know how back then, as what happens today, that customers approached a cashier working with another customer like the lady does who wants to know about the tea stain on her rug and hamburger lady. That's one big pet peeve of mine when I'm in a grocery store or any store at all. Wait your turn like the rest of us!

This was back in the mid to late 80’s when cell phone and social media didn’t exist she would literally be on every social media platform hurling insults at customers haha.

1.) What was the point of Mr. Palmer giving Thelma a job as a checker in the first place? He'd originally hired her to give advice to customers. 2.) How the hell did Palmer expect Thelma to ring up groceries and answer "Ask Thelma" questions from customers all at the same time? If she was going to be checking groceries, she shouldn't have been wearing her "Ask Thelma" button. 3.) When Thelma couldn't find the special price for the Longhorn Chili, why didn't Naomi step in and help her find it on the specials list? Naomi was being held hostage too, waiting for Thelma to muddle her way through the pages. 4.) Wouldn't Palmer have made Naomi train Thelma thoroughly in how to properly check groceries, rather than instructing Naomi to merely be the bagger while Thelma magically figured it out for herself? Mr. Palmer = Most Incompetent Store Manager of the Century

That's what they do when you work retail especially at a supermarket or big department store. When I was 16 I was hired as a cart attendant at Target and I enjoyed working by myself collecting all the carts for the first 3 months. Then my idiot boss comes up and says "you need to learn how to cashier" after that, I was so busy being cashier and cart boy at the same time and nearly lost my top like Mama did dealing with all those needy customers.

Mr. Palmer was a much better Manager than Mr. Wood. I wonder if they brought back Mr. Palmer after they got rid of Mr. Wood.

I think you have to see the whole episode to understand why the supermarket manager gave Thelma 2 jobs. As to why Naomi didn't help her, she said something about butting out so earlier Thelma had not wanted Naomi's help so now it has backfired on her ass. And I guess Palmer was just an idiot in not having Naomi train Thelma. Of course, then you wouldn't have this funny scene.

@@sha11235 -- Um, I've watched this entire episode MULTIPLE times. If they were going to put Thelma on the checkout register, then they should have closed down "Ask Thelma" during those specific hours. There's no logical way she could be expected to perform both roles, especially on her first day as a checker.

Agree it's expensive. The reason Naomi is double bagging is Thelma told her to do that on all orders regardless of size. Trader Joe's does that now.

Why did they get rid of Mr. Palmer and brought in that creep Mr. Wood? What was corporate thinking? Mr. Palmer was a nice Manager regardless of him making Naomi a bagger and giving her job to Thelma as the checker. Mr. Wood was a jerk and a pervert. After they got rid of Mr. Wood, I wonder if they brought back Mr. Palmer. Mr. Palmer was a much nicer person and a professional Manager.
