The story of the rapper Moonbyul/Moonstar is just the opposite of her story. She auditioned as a vocalist but was told that they have too many so she would have to learn to rap to be in the group. So now she is powerful rapper and writes all her own raps.

Ive said it once and I'll say it again, Mamamoo is a group of 5 Jungkook's and it's amazing. They aren't as popular as say twice, but on an objective level, Mamamoo have stronger voices. Like, I'm sure people will argue, but just to be clear I'm a stan of a lot of girl groups lmao. I'm not super picky with my music. It's just that objectively you can tell how strong their voices are as soon as they open their mouth. Sometimes I wonder though, if it's partially that groups like twice do so much pop they aren't able to show the full range of their voices.

Funny how you say the Hwasa will beat you up because she has a song Im a B 😅 honestly these girls are so so talented, individually and as a collective! So glad somebody requested this, their vocals are impeccable!

From Left to Right: Moon Byul-yi, tallest member of the group and of course as you know, rapper extraordinaire. She writes all of her own verses (THE MOST-Credited female rapper in K-Pop currently) and she recently had a solo album come out (don't worry, the group is still together; their solo projects are side projects, not any of them actually leaving the group). She's a hell of a dancer, too. Well, really, ALL FOUR of these awesome ladies have had solo songs come out. :) Next to her, Solar (that's her stage name; real name is Kim Yong-sun). She's the oldest member and leader of the group, although sometimes people would think she is the maknae...she's definitely the group's biggest crack-head. She really tries to take care of the rest, 'the kids' as she calls them. Then you have Jung Whee-in, the 'cutest' (and shortest) member (even though she hates being called cute). She picks up choreo faster than even Byul-yi. She has done dance covers to other peoples' songs and DAMN she is GOOD! She's a genius all the way around, the brains. She is also REALLY GREAT with bow and arrows and she was the only Idol to get a perfect score in an athletic event that many Idols and Soloists attended a few years ago. It is UNHEARD OF for somebody who is not a Pro to do what she did! Three bull's Eyes in a row! AMAZING! And then, she is down-to-Earth and shy. She has anxiety issues, poor thing. And then of course, the one you think could beat your a**, Hwasa (that's her stage name; her given name at birth is Ahn Hye-jin and her Baptismal name is Maria). She is the youngest member of the group (the maknae) but also the one most-targeted by Korean haters. They actually PETITIONED the company to kick her out of Mamamoo 'because she does not fit the Korean Beauty Standard'! The haters are STILL after her, even though the massively overwhelming amounts of public support for her completely drowns the haters out. It's really a travesty because she is as much of a sweetheart as Wheein, if not moreso! Nobody deserves to be treated less-than-human when they work so hard, let along being such a great human being! I honestly think they are so "bingeable" as they have very good MVs, performances and other content that showcase tons of talent, personality, chemistry and just good plain vibes (a lot like BTS, imo). Moonbyul actually never wanted to be a rapper but she's insanely good at it. Also the most credited female idol in kpop right now! Hwasa is a huge softie but can turn on her badass stage presence at the drop of a dime. She's an amazing artist. Solar (the belter) has the the lung capacity of a whale, literally. There's one Immortal Songs performance where she held an C#5 for 8 solid seconds, just shivers. And Wheein is the all-rounder. Amazing at dancing, Ariana Grande vocals, and FUNNY. When she sings OSTs or ballads, they blow up especially in SK!

Killing Voice/Verse is an amazing series!! They host all the amazing top Korean artists (including lots of rappers and solo artists) to perform a live set that kind of spans their discography. For the Killing Verse ones a lot of the rappers also do a freestyle. Mamamoo, JUSTHIS, Lee Hi and Golden's epidsodes are some of my favorites. Also Seventeen was just on and killed it! of course lol

I love these Killing Voices/Verses performances. I just discovered them. Jessi’s is great. Ikon’s is great. Psy has one too. Those are the one I’ve seen but I think there are many others.

It’s funny that you remarked that MoonByul (the rapper) has less swag in this video than you’d expect (which is true in this case.) But she tends to be known for her irresistible swag and snatching the hearts of all genders. There’s even compilations of her being “greasy” (aka a cheesy but suave flirt) leaving other women squealing. And she is usually wearing pants even if the other members are wearing dresses. I appreciate that she’s allowed to wear what she feels best in, in spite of general girl group expectations.
