Maria is Hwasa's baptismal name, she wrote this song to herself after she suffered from a lot of criticism for her looks ❤ I think you saw a good example of their solos! each has her own style and it shows perfectly in their individual music and mv's. Lunatic is the title track from Moonbyul's 6equence. The album potrays stage of love from fluttering first meeting to breaking up, regrets, trying to move on phase. She wrote scripts for every song and the lunatic script is something like this "Why is it like this. It's my heart but I can't seem to control it. Even when I got angry just like the thunder, but I will just melt from your words. Even if I push you away angrily, I'll stiil come to you in less than a day and beg you" ...imo it's the phase in love where we do everything because of love and sometimes we lost ourselves.

All great songs and I it was great seeing all 4 of these songs sung by mamamoo during the MyCon concert and that came right after the switch ups, where Solar sings Wheein's Watercolor, Wheein sings Solar's Honey, Hwasa sings Moonbyul's Eclipse and Moonbyul sings Hwasa's Twit and each woman was wearing the outfit for each song as well. Mamamoo is up with the best of the best. I am so deep into the Solar system that we would not notice if the Sun when out because we have Solar.

Mamamoo are such incredible artists, it's really insane how they can shine on their own and how different they are musically but still mix so well together. For me they are one of kind because the amount of talent they have on their own alone is honestly baffling.

Yes they are so talented that they write their own song, all their song have very deep meaning to it. Maria song is write to those hatred and that she will be strong. Solar spit it out is saying she will do whatever she want and say whatever she want. And moonbyul lunatic album Is an epic and so is wheein. And fun fact mamamoo fan base is mostly female compared to other girl group cause they inspire female to be themselves and love more of themselves

Hwasa said Maria is the crystallized tears and sweat that she shed. The MV starts with a crime scene, Hwasa is dead and people are still trying to take some shots of her. A red hair Maria (an alter ego after Hwasa baptismal name) is watching the scene careless. Hwasa funeral, only empty chairs with invitation on it and with its back turned, nobody cares like she says in the lyrics. Here an homage to the most beautiful and powerful scene in Malena movie, with all those men offering their lighter to her. Malena is the most beautiful woman of a SMALL village (it can be a comparison to South Korea restricted mentality), because of her looks and her solitary state, she is an object of lust for all the town's men and of hatred for its women…after many vicissitudes and a very hard time she understood that her beauty is her salvation. So she cuts her black hair and dyes by red her hair, changing her attitude as well. We can clearly see a difference among Hwasa and Maria, both in outfits and attitude. In the table scene we can see a bloodstained Maria with rubber boots and a pretty simple outfit at a table with people all dressed up, they're keyboard warriors. Again lyrics "You all worked hard hating. If you knock me down. Does that feed you?" She's serving them with all sort of things. The table is full with jewels, trove of tapes, mics, cds, diamonds…but they're just looking at those picky. Maria with a bored face is watching them and then she starts happily eating a brain. The difference among Maria and those people is so strong and impactful. I've also read that eat someone's brain means pester someone. The triangular tub is also interesting, she's bathing in milk and rose petals like a Queen and her skin is so white, but once again she looks bored and then she starts to make 'no' gesture with her finger with a smirking face. Like 'I don't need to be pale, I'm beautiful like this'… probably a references to all hateful comments she gets about her bronze skin since ages. We're back to Hwasa, she's trapped like in a mental hospital with a straitjacket, all her body is constrained by laces…this once again can be interpreted as the restricted South Korea mentality. They're monitoring her, pencils (comments) are pointed at her and she is trying to escape from this kind of net (network) until she finds a crown with diamonds and nails (representing the double faces of success). Ink-stained hands Hwasa decides to wear the crown, She got ink on her hands while fighting malicious comments, in fact we can see her beating her fists on the ground and shouting. The triangular tub is back but this time we can see Maria and Hwasa looking at each other through a bloody water. A triangle is a figure linked to different trinities like mind, body & spirit; past, present & future; thought, feeling & emotion and creation, preservation and destruction. And, personally, all those fit this MV perfectly. And now we discover Hwasa was not dead at all. Like it was all a dream, in fact she's on a coach with scissor in her hands, she is alone with her thoughts when suddenly Mamamoo members appear with big smiles. She said many times Mamamoo are her strength and she was able to face difficulties since trainee period only because they were together. The whole lyrics are beautiful and powerful but sad at the same time. She said this is an exciting yet sad song, she likes those kind of songs because they resemble life. With this album Hwasa became the FIRST Korean female solo artist to reach #1 on iTunes US Album chart and ranked 1st on the WORLDWIDE album chart as well. She co-wrote and co-composed 4 songs out of 6 of this album…an amazing album with powerful collaborations, a Queen like always.

Maria definitely is the most emotional song out of all of them. Hwasa said that during this time she struggled with suicidal thoughts (which is why you see the scene with her scissors on the chair) and there’s so much symbolism and references in this mv. I won’t bother explaining and boring you tho there are video analysis that goes into stuff like the time travel (and how she would be reborn and wouldn’t die if she allowed the people around her to help her and be there for her), society and the scene of death (chairs turned away at her funeral, red carpet marking lines being put around her scene of death etc) and more if you’re interested. It’s a really great mv, great message and also an extreme bop!

I love all of their solo EPs, but according to my steaming app, I mostly listen to Moonbyul and especially WheeIn (I love RnB).

Moonbyul is definitely special. She auditioned to be a singer but with three strong vocalists she agreed to try rapping. Last year Byul competed on the show Second World, which had rappers from Kpop groups compete in vocal battles - and she won the entire competition. Byul also has over 100 songwriting credits.

Listening to Maria, especially the chorus makes me choke up. H consoling and reassuring herself and the members cameoing at the end was cherry on top. It's even crazy that Maria is one of the most successful solo song in k-pop.

Consider [MV] 화사 (Hwa Sa) - LMM next. Not only one of the most beautiful songs by a solo member of the group... but one of my favorite songs period.

The Maria video is rich in symbolism. We start out with the press gathering around the spectacle of her murder (note the theater style poles and rope) but then no one is at her funeral. In fact all the chairs are turned away. The cigaret scene is referencing a famous Italian movie where the beautiful girl is hated by the town. Then the table of the paparazzi picking over various ephermera while she is literally offering up her heart. Then the hooded people representing the anonymous commenters on line and the storm of pencils showing the constant hateful comments she gets. When she picks up the crown of nails (thorns) her fingers are inkstained showing that her artistic creation is what brings both the glory and the pain. Finally her members help bring her out of her near suicidal depression. The Maria album as a whole is about Hwasa's struggle to love herself. Moonbyul's album that Lunatic is part of 6sequence is about the arc of a relationship. It starts with G999 where she is falling in love and then Shutdown where the relationship gets physical. Lunatic is the point where problems are developing and then For Me is the break up and finally Ddu, Ddu, Ddu is looking back after the break up. Solar loves to dance. She didn't have the early training but she's worked hard to build her skill. Her dance covers on Solarsido are special. This was Wheein song that got a music show win. Wheein's mother called her butterfly fairie so she identifies strongly with butterflies.

In my opinion, Sloar's solo are the weakest in therms of showing her range vocally but it's always catchy songs (except the ballads, she sounds amazing in these), Hwasa is the best because it's catchy AND we get cool vocals, I love Wheein jazzy songs it fits her voice really well, and Moonbyul gets to show her vocals more and more each song she releases and it's amazing everytime.
