In an interview with TNIE Kerala, director Blessy says that he at first, wanted to do the film 'Pranayam' with Mammootty in the leading role. Blessy says even though Mammootty expressed interest in playing the role of an elderly character, he later changed his mind and suggested someone else do the role. The director says that that is how Mohanlal came into the picture.

@@HarikrishnanM0 The couldn't even lipsyc properly. It was hard to ignore the movement of the mouth which were totally different from what was need for the words he was trying to say. Rizza Bava did an excellent job delivering the dialogues. If you turned off visuals it still sounds very professional. His acting contributed very little the success of the movie.
