Oil based painted cabinets... I had an aromatic wax melt in a container placed in a pot of water on my stove. I would warm the water to melt the wax cube in order for it to release the fragrance into the room. I accidently and unknowingly turned the stove top burner on (high setting). I then left my house to return about 30 minutes later to a house filled w/ smoke. All the water in the pot had evaporated, high amounts of heat was being generated, smoke and soot had been deposited most heavily in the immediate area. Fortunately, it did not catch my house on fire. However, I was left w/ significant amounts of smoke and soot deposits...primarily on my oil based painted wood cabinets. Would you recommend a dry chem sponge cleaning or a wet degreaser cleaning to start?

A how to sponge video would be helpful as well.

I have to clean soot off the covers of comics and don’t want to hurt the books. Can’t use any abrasives or harsh chemicals. What would you suggest. ? Thanks
