Seven years in the ground. 5 ft tall never been trimmed. Great color, slow growing mean very little trimming work.

How far apart did you plant them?

Looks gorgeous! Do you recommend any fertilizer for it? I am going to plant mine in a planter box with full sun

Well draining good potting soil with 20% perlite and mix in some Osmocote fertilizer. Recommend light colored planter, because dark/black pots/planters absorb sun and bake the plant's roots. Eventually it will not tolerate the confines of the size planter/pot and will need to go into the ground or move to larger planter. Does not like standing water, so make sure the planter drains freely. best wishes.

What type of soil would you recommend for them?

Thanks for question. I'm in Southwest Florida, Fort Myers, we have really bad soil. All of my garden beds are built up using "commercial compost" about 18 to 20 inches high. See a few of my other KZfaq videos on building beds.
