Man Arrested After Stealing Electric Scooter, Assembling it Outside of Target Store on Sidewalk

On April 3, 2023, FCSO deputies responded to a shoplifting in progress at Target on State Road 100. The reporting party observed a white male select a “Razor” brand electric scooter valued at $539.99 and pass all points of sale without paying before exiting the store.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man matching the suspect’s description assembling the electric scooter in front of the store on the sidewalk. The male, later identified as Patrick Vandermeyden-Miller, was placed under arrest for Petit Theft. Upon a search of his person, drug paraphernalia was located in his pocket. Vandermeyden-Miller was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on charges of Petit Theft and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is being held on $2,000 bond.
“This dumb criminal of the week must have thought he was in another state or city where it’s okay to walk into a store and steal what you want and not face any consequences,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “He didn’t get to ride ‘his’ Razor but he did get a free ride to the Green Roof Inn in the backseat of a patrol car!”

I caught a shoplifter at Publix several months ago. He made a snarky comment to me because I wear a mask still because I’m immunocompramised. After I was leaving I saw him leave the store with the green carry basket with stuff in it. I was pretty sure he was shoplifting since people don’t take the green baskets home. I then went to the end of the building outside and started chatting with someone with his stolen loot. I reported the idiot in and Publix told me that they are not supposed to go after shoplifters once they get out of the building however this guy had been shoplifting for several days now so they did go after him and got the goods back and the shoplifter was arrested right outside of the store. Kind of the same thing in this video. I believe they know that once they leave the stores they are supposed to be left alone. Apparently they are to,d not to go after shoplifters once they leave the stores because employees have been killed before in other stores. I bet the guy in the video anticipated the same and that they wouldn’t go after him. Idiot!

to be fair, he was exercising his right to remain silent very well and didn't say anything self incriminating. he also didnt run. for a suspected criminal, i think he handled the police very well, and the police did their job great too. they are both models.

For the record, if he did this crime in San Francisco he would have gotten away with it. And had time to charge it. I've seen homeless open the power source compartment on street lights, cut the wiring and charge "their" scooters with the street light power. I'm talking about across the street from the court house and sheriff's station. But, that is how San Francisco does things.

@CraigLumpyLemke lol, yes I have. I work in the building right in front of the court house, 833 Bryant St as maintenance. The wires were left out and exposed, had to have one of my guys go and put electrical tape on the exposed wires and close the compartment. If you're not from the bay area, then you have no idea how bad it is here. And to be clear, I'm not talking stop light, just standard street light. I'm the one who went and chased them off, so I saw their whole setup. I worked in LA before this. Someone broke in to our trash room, cut a live wire, and attached their phone charger to it by hard wiring it. The wires touched, shorted out, and almost caused a fire. Dude, you clearly have no idea what California is like these days.
