I have a friend that was in a motorcycle accident and it cut his leg off. Being an amputee didn't stop him for a second from living. People look at him, but all I see is a survivor and a great guy. It's amazing the things you can endure in life with the right attitude. I hope you are keeping strong as well.

I was at a hotel for a continuing education meeting when I held the door for a guy with quadruple amputations, and fancy prosthetics (springs for feet like the athletes use, and 2 different apparatuses for his arms). He actually appeared much more able than disabled. Imagine my surprise when I turned the corner and saw a convention center hallway full of quad amputees! They were having a convention of their own. I don’t think there were any single or doubles in the group, although I didn’t stop and stare. It was a marvelous and wonderful sight. I’m sure they were happy to have the support and be the norm instead of the exception. So know, as bad as it is to have amputations (I’m a physician and take care of many people with many issues causing amputations), quadruples are extremely uncommon, and never in my life have I seen a large, cheerful, well equipped, athletic appearing group. This was in a relatively small city (Oklahoma City).

In some places/countries Louis is pronounced differently. So it is not wrong, it is just how some people grew up pronouncing it. Just like Jean can be pronounced Jean (French) or Jean (like Gene).

If they were talking about someone’s name we sometimes pronounce it Lewie too. But we are talking about a major city. Here’s another angle… say a town was named Saint Tomato. (Toe May toe) It wouldn’t be right for me to call it Saint Tomatoe (Toe Mah Toe). 😊

Louis to you may be called Louis to someone else. Just like Jean (Fench) amd Jean (as in Gene). In some places/countries it is pronounced differently. I'm surprised how few know that.

St. Louis was named after a French king. In French, oftentimes the last letter isn’t said aloud aka it’s silent. Hence, a lot of Europeans and French people will say “Loui” and leave the “s” off. Just like “Paris” is pronounced “Pari” with a silent “s.”
