Tech giant Bubble unveils B-bot, a robot designed by CEO Marc Wydell to help people make friends. In Nonsuch, California, Barney lacks a B-bot, while his friends are absorbed by theirs. Barney gets a glitchy B-bot, Ron, who becomes his true friend. Ron's unconventional actions cause controversy and chaos, revealing issues with other B-bots. Barney and Ron run away, pursued by Bubble. With Ron's help, Barney exposes Bubble's unethical practices, leading to Ron's essence spreading to all B-bots. People embrace the flawed bots and Barney rebuilds friendships. A tower hints at Ron's continued presence.

I found the plot interesting. Barney started out thinking that he couldn't make friends without a B-bot. Then, after finally getting one, he befriends the robot, but then that made Barney think that he didn't need any other friends except Ron. Then in the end, after losing Ron, Barney becomes friends with his old friends again. I was sad when Ron sacrificed himself to make the other B-bots like him (not just machines but actual companions) but it did help Barney to discover that he could make friends on his own. Ron is officially within my top 5 favorite fictional robots.

My favourite part about friendship is when Ron carry his sick friend out of the woods for help and the girl's B-bot erasing the video and history of her shame away from the world. Those are the true acts of friends.

By modern western standards this kid's family is considered poor. But by third world country 'standards' they are considered rich or middle class at least. Example if they moved to Thailand, they could have a mansion with servants AND a robot.

I watched this and don’t recall him being poor or bullied to the extreme. 1. His family had the money, but didn’t get his product through the official channels and got scammed. 1.a. His family isn’t the most wealthy, so spending less is understandable, but they dismiss tech out of hand, which is different than making an educated decision not to get tech. 2. He wasn’t bullied so much for being poor, as much as he was socially outcast for acting noticeably different, right..? 3. Overall his family wasn’t really wrong in trying to provide a balanced lifestyle, but they were also unaware of what they needed to do to prevent him from being socially outcast.
