I was an atheist, and for years thought I'd never work it out to find my way back to belief. Too many thoughts and questions. When you stop asking you start getting answers, especially when you realize the constant questioning is just to prolong the self-reckoning.

*I have often noticed. The further the unbeliever is from Christ...the more "good" they believe themselves to be. Contrastly, the nearer one draws toward Christ...the less good they see in their own life and the realization of their need for Christ increases. Christ is the light that reveals the sin within us. As we draw nearer that light...so that sin is revealed. As we move further away ...so that sin disappears into the darkness and in our own eyes...we become good again believing we have no need for a savior. Dear Christ that I should believe myself...."good."*

I have the desire to email this out to everyone I know, but there is one exception that needs to be attended to. Being hearing impaired, the ”closed caption” gives an entirely different interpretation, a jumble of words and meaning different then what is being read. Such words as “boozing” appear as the CC’s interpretation. So, please take the extra effort to apply to this dynamic message the opportunity for those who may not have literally “ears to hear” to be persuaded by this message as well. Thank you for its posting at such a defining time in this worlds history. Shalom.

This line of thinking is the beginning. I have been sober for 10 years and this is how I opened myself to the proposition that Christianity would be the path I would walk. I was raised by atheist's, and not all the knowledge from books could help me in the darkest moments. C.S. Lewis and Translations from Dark Night of the Soul, were my first steps out of 12th step literature. I pray you find the strength and direction I have found. I pray that you remember that faith doesn't mean the world will treat you well, or hardships won't come, but faith will sustain you when they do. May the Lord guide you in your search.

***** ...and eventually you die, like every other human being... and miss out on "ETERNAL" LIFE! 1 John 2:17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. . John 3:16..."For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. . 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. . John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. . John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life." . John 6:67-69 So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?" Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. "We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God." . Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. . Romans 8:10-11 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. . Matthew 22:32 'I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." . John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. . 1 John 1:1-2 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life-- and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us-- . Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

+Linda Marie I know you don't. You also don't see the problem with circular logic. You can like Lewis all you want. It does not change the fact that he most certainly a poor mans philosopher. Hie rarely does much then play hypothetical games. Like let's put his trilema for example to the test. Liar, madman or son of God. Here's where you and I diverge. You probably see that as convincing , However. If I add he might of been mere legend. Then the trilema is a dog with no legs to stand on. I just take ire with him being called brilliant. We're talking about guy who wrote a book where Santa gives children weapons.

It's a false trilemma . If he is not a liar or a madman, he must be the son of Christ. Or maybe he was just a story. Or maybe sacrificing yourself to yourself makes no sense.
@baldeagle1171
@baldeagle1171 8 жыл бұрын
+rador7 well with 4 things, it's no longer a trilema. In fact it becomes less and less relevant as you add more, he may have been a great morale teacher but he was delusional about being one with God. You don't think that sacrificing yourself to yourself to appease yourself isn't a bit silly? It's like taking your own money to pay a debt you owe to yourself. I was an evangelical growing up. I was devout; but even the devout have to hide their heads in the sand to pretend the bible doesn't contradict itself, including Jesus. Did he die with two thieves that denounced him? Or one? Both are right, but both can't be true. With this, how is anything in the gospels true if they contradict each other? How can we take anything these people say to heart? Oh and can you please provide how secularists, a minority in this country for a long time, did more to keep the gays down? Only 20% atheists are against gay marriage. I'm sure as you go back, the number may rise. However that's not proof.

@baldeagle1171 8 жыл бұрын
+rador7 that's like saying "Here was a giant radioactive lizard called Godzilla, this could not be invented." Just because he seems like he couldn't have been invented means he must have been real. Why do so many gods that predate Jesus have the same stories as him? If I'm correct even C.S. Lewis mentioned this in mere Christianity if incorrect. I would be happy to recant that. However the idea that someone being so great or unbelievable that it can't be made up. That's like claiming humans don't have any imagination at all. I do apologize for the slow responses, I use my phone for this mostly
@baldeagle1171
@baldeagle1171 8 жыл бұрын
+rador7 and how is it a valid test? It's not even a test. It's a thought experiment. He says we only have three choices. You can't prove it, you can't run it into an algorithm. The fact that we have a 4th option breaks the "test". He did not use science, he used circular reasoning. If his apostles didn't think he wasn't nuts or a liar. Then he must be the son of God. Which his evidence for this is the bible, which tells us the absolutely consistent tale of Jesus Christ, which must be right as it was inspired by God so it must be true. This is the logic that's frustrating me.

Spencer Gage I'll just reply to my own comment (lol) because I have a few requests for topics, IP. You said you take requests, but you haven't uploaded a new video in months, so if you haven't been getting much then here's plenty of fuel. 1. Could you give an overview of the Calvinist-Arminianist controversy? The concept of an "elect" confuses me, and while I've been told that Calvinism is "more biblical" than Arminianism I'm still a bit confused as to what the elect really is. One day I might be talking about my faith with non-Christians, and I feel that my views on the elect and salvation are really going to affect how I approach telling them about Christ. And even though I know God is just, I have trouble understanding His justice in light of the fact that He would allow whole cultures to go on for centuries without ever hearing the Gospel. It's easier, after all, to be a Christian in the Middle Ages in Europe or in the 21st century in the West in general than it would be to be a Christian in a place where it's seen as a mark of imperialism in some other time period. I'm wondering in particular how it isn't racist to look at a whole group of unsaved people and say that they simply weren't part of the elect. This issue doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but it's still something I'd like clarified, and perhaps you could give your opinion on it. You're not biased on things like this, I don't think, and most other people I could talk to about this would be so I can't go to them. 2. Could you give a video that refutes the ideas of the Bahai faith, namely that Jesus is just one of many "wise people"? Many people have misconceptions about Jesus or just assume that all religions teach similar things. 3. Could you argue against "Pauline" Christianity? I take it you know what that is, and when I heard Reza Aslan talk about it on C-SPAN when he promoted his book that basically espoused it I was just furious at the way he was degrading and distorting our faith and calling Paul a fabricator when really HE'S the fabricator. Prove to everybody that Paul wasn't some evil person trying to hijack Jesus for his own personal ends. It may seem obvious to us that he wasn't doing that, but other people don't seem to get it. Reza Aslan, for clarification, is basically like Karen Armstrong in that he likes religion in general, but only when catered to 21st century pluralistic tastes. 4. Could you give an overview of complementarianism, Christian egalitarianism, women being pastors, etc.? A lot of people think Christianity is sexist, and honestly, when Paul says stuff about women being quiet/submissive it really looks like that. I'm a guy, so I shouldn't really care, but I just don't want women feeling like they're being restricted in a church environment or feeling like the Bible wants them to make themselves inferior. I may not be a girl but I do struggle with feelings of inferiority sometimes, and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that unless they respected the people above them. If you have a girlfriend or a wife or just a female friend to talk about this stuff with, then I'd suggest getting her to help. 5. Nature vs. nurture. This is particularly important to me, given who I am and the sort of sins I struggled with in my past and am sometimes worried I'll relapse into. I know that ultimately, humans are fallen and it doesn't matter whether we are predisposed to certain sins or whether we are simply giving in to temptation (I think it might be both, to some extent), but I still want to try and understand what sort of things I do that I can change that are sinful versus things idiosyncrasies I have that are just a part of who I am that aren't directly sinful. 6. Legislating morality and moralism--You know as well as I do that nowadays Christians in America are famous for opposing things we see as sinful. But we're making too big of a deal about these things, I fear, and alienating people. How can it be a part of God's plan for His own followers to alienate people with their actions and turn them away from the Gospel? Should Christians try to ban abortion and gay marriage because the Bible speaks against things like this, or would ignoring them be better? If the latter is true, are we Christians compromising in some way with the sinful world? SHOULD we compromise our morals to spread the Gospel? I technically have my own opinions on this already and I think we're probably in agreement, but I'd like to hear your views on it. 7. The Crusades, Columbus, and Cortez. Just review these topics whenever you can. I've heard so much biased information on these things from both Christians and secular academic textbooks that I don't know what to think. How should a Christian view events and people like these, and how do bad events done in the name of the Christian faith further God's plan as He works in history? 8. Your testimony. You obviously don't have to do this one, but you said you used to be an agnostic and were bullied for it. I'd like to know how you became a Christian--obviously you weren't "brainwashed" or "forced" into it because if you were you'd just espouse a specific denomination or something. I'd really like to know how you ended up doing this and what got you interested in apologetics and just your whole faith journey in general. 9. Israel-related topics. I mean things like Christian Zionism (you know how a lot of American churches have this blind support for Israel), replacement theology (I know that prophecies related to Israel don't apply to the church, but I feel like some of the OT verses seem to get new meaning to us Christians today), how Israel is involved with the last days, and finally how a Christian should view the fact that there are, in fact, Christians still living in the Middle East and sometimes the Israelis discriminate against them (and how if you're supporting Israel you might also be opposing your own fellow believers in Christ without knowing it). Again, I already have opinions here, but I just want to hear your thoughts on the topic. There's also a good book related to this called Son of Hamas, by a Palestinian guy who, as the name suggests, was a son of one of the founders of Hamas, then became an agent for the Israelis...and some other stuff. Basically, he became a Christian and found that Jesus teaching of loving your enemies was something that both Isrealis and Palestinians could really learn from. The book made me realize that you can't really look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a black and white, good vs. evil thing, yet some Christians do, feeling like they MUST side with the Jews (maybe to make up for centuries of previous Anti-Semitism?) and hate the "evil" Palestinians who "want to take over Israel". I know some of these topics aren't really your thing, but I'd still appreciate your views on them. If you know another Christian on KZfaq that's already done some videos on any of these topics that could answer my questions, let me know.

Oh, and one more thing for discussion: biblical morals and capitalism. I know a bunch of people that thing Western culture=good things=capitalism=Christianity. Basically, they think the Bible supports capitalism when that is technically impossible (they take verses and interpret them the way they wan to, you know the like). I'm not a Communist, and I don't hve any issues with capitalism, but I just don't see how capitalism can be endorsed in the Bible when the ideas in capitalism didn't exist. Just because capitalism is "good" (I'm not big on economics, though) doesn't mean that the Bible has to endorse it. It kind of bothers me that today's American Christians just shackle the faith to human-conceived ideas, and that we justify our cultural views by re-interpreting Bible verses. Or they just argue that because such a people in a such a society were Christians they were able to conceive of good ideas. Could you give your thoughts on this topic as well? Take your time, of course. Better yet if you can't do it find one of your apologist friends who can. Are any of them into this stuff?

+TheGalmo "and many atheists feel that Christians deliberately try not to know whether Christianity is true or false." No, that's just the comforting lie that atheists tell themselves. You see, atheists are automatically morally and intellectually superior to religious people, because, like, dude, they're religious people. That old British man on the TV said that religious people are stupid. You don't even need to do your research and understand the evidence and arguments brought forward by religious people. You don't even need to understand religious people's point of view. In fact, it's BETTER not to understand what religious people even believe. Proving religious claims wrong would be a lot of work, so it's better to just make out like religious claims are so ridiculous that they're beneath you trying to understand them. You don't even need to know atheism very well either... If some religious idiot who doesn't know anything wants to point out that empiricism is itself a positive philosophical claim or that there are different atheist philosophies and other dumb shit you've never heard of before, you can just laugh and say "lol, atheism is just not believing in god you stupid stupidhead." The important thing to remember is that religious people are ontologically stupid and atheists are ontologically superior. Religious people MUST not have examined their own beliefs or else they would KNOW that they're false. Because atheism is true. Atheists know this because they're not stupid. Because they're atheists.

Just because your a Christian doesn't mean something magically happens and all the sudden I'm brand new and will never sin again, it's impossible to not sin or follow the law in our flesh bodies. The Bible teaches this, we come to Christ Jesus as babes and grow in time like a tree next to a brook. I've tried and failed over and over the I finally found peace when I accepted my sinful nature and leaned on and trusting in Jesus for my redemption. If gravity exists: then things with mass are pulled towards other things with mass. If things with mass are pulled toward one another: then the universe should be shrinking. If the Universe is shrinking then it is taking up space. If the Universe is taking up space: then by shrinking it is taking up less space. If Universe was once taking up more space: then it is now taking up less space. If the Universe is now taking up less space then there is space which the Universe is no longer taking up. If there is space which the Universe is no longer taking up: then the Universe is not everything. If the Universe is not everything then the Universe did not always exist. However, there is evidence that the Universe is expanding and therefore there is enough force acting upon objects to overpower some masses gravitational pull for as long as that force is acting. If the Universe is expanding: then it takes up space. If the Universe is expanding: then there is space which the Universe is taking up which wasn't always being taken up. If the Universe can take up space which it wasn't always taking up: then there has been a time when the Universe wasn't everything and ergo it isn't necessarily everything now. If the Universe has not been everything in the past: then it has not always existed. If the Universe has not always existed: then it had a beginning. If the Universe had a beginning caused by randomness: then there shouldn't be order. If there is order: then the Universe wasn't born randomly. If the Universe wasn't born randomly: then the Universe was created on purpose. If the Universe was created on purpose: then their is a rational being who created it. If their is a rational being who created it: then this ration being had a reason to create the Universe. If this rational being exists: then this rational being must be omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. If this being is omniscient and rational: then this being would not create anything for any other reason than to have one or more rational companions. If this being desired rational companions: then it would only make any other beings if it knew it could receive rational companions. If this being made beings to become rational companions: then it would give them free will so they could be rational. If this being gave them free will: then they could choose to be irrational some of the time. If they chose to be irrational: then it would probably be because they ignored the logic I've used up until now. If they chose to be irrational: then they would need to be unmade unless they could become rational afterward. If they could become rational: then something would need to be done to show them why it is desirable to be rational. If something were able to show them it is desirable to be rational: then it would have to show them that the creator desires companionship, but only companionship with rational beings. If this action were to be done: then it would have to be done at such a time for the knowledge of the act to not get lost before the largest possible number of potentially-always-rational-beings of any time could be persuaded to desire to be always-rational-beings. It seems that time was during the prime of the Roman Empire. It seems Jesus dying on a cross at that place and time was in fact the best possible way to persuade as many potentially-always-rational-beings as possible to desire to be always-rational-beings so they could spend eternity with their creator and learn to be always-rational-beings so that their creator is not contradicted.
@jeremiahmeade710
@jeremiahmeade710 11 ай бұрын
Oh my, I was on to something ~2 years ago. Now I have learned that Jesus dying on the cross was him being the mother of the Children of God. The cross was his labor in giving birth! The trinity is Husband (God the Father), Wife (God the Son), and Child (God the Holy Spirit). A true Christian is actually someone who has become a part of the trinity by the Holy Spirit.

Dear lacontrabasse, if Christianity is true, and a person rejects it, knowing it to be true, and that is Ok with God, then Christianity is not true at all, for Christianity claims to be the one truth. If what you have a problem with is the idea of there being only one truth, consider the alternative, which is that there are many truths. If there are many truths, than none of them are actually true, and we are left with no truth. For if there is Truth, then it is the one Truth. As for it not being fair for a person who rejects God to be condemned, we must first consider what condemnation means. Damnation is essentially eternal separation from God. If a person rejects God, they are already living in that condemnation(having already chosen separation from God). The difference is that in this life all good things come from God( nature, love etc...) so a person who rejects God on earth is still enjoying the blessings of God. After death those perks won't be there...

I have to say that I think Lewis's statement about "Honest Error" is itself mistaken. The main reason we are under God's wrath is because we've sinned against him, and are by nature depraved. Even if people genuinely think Christianity is wrong, they've stilled committed acts they know are morally evil. You aren't just condemned for unbelief-you're condemned for every single sin. A denial that there is a God and an acceptance of moral relativism characterizes atheism-moral relativism isn't just an "honest error"...it's a refusal to acknowledge the law we know is written on our hearts. The chief reason we reject God is because we desire to be our own gods-and this is definitely worthy of God's wrath. In any case, the reason people make the error and live their lives as though God doesn't exist is because of sinfulness. He took the Son of Man quote out of context. It says in that very same passage that those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. What does that mean? It means that if one sins in such a way that the Holy Spirit decides to withdraw his presence and not grant repentance, then that person will not be forgiven.

I don't agree with something Lewis says. He says materialists are more interested in civilisations, classes, and organisations rather than individuals. I would describe my self as a materialist more than a christian and I find that statement totally false. First, I don't believe in social classes, I think people should be given positions based on their merits I think all people have certain rights because they are people. I believe all people should have the ability to choose how to live their lives and allowed the right to live make decisions for themselves. Possibly. Which is the underlying problem I have with these kinds of sermons. They often make a vague reference toward a specific group, as having specific properties, but these properties are neither exclusive, nor required. So it suggests that they are making a grossly inaccurate statement, or are speaking of particular sub-categories, without making a clear distinction between them, which is highly irresponsible.

He was describing the logical results of a materialist philosophy. Obviously your personal philosophy is not pure materialism or you would not be putting individuals ahead of society. What is your rationale for doing so? It could well be a product of living in a post-Christian society which has absorbed many basic aspects of the Christian world-view even by those who explicitly reject Christianity itself.

8:30+ That's assuming every human being would accept christianity as true, should he/she learn about it. That won't be the case. Furthermore a man could reject christianity, even without researching about it, just by noting how many crimes and evils have been inspired by said religion, and this deeming it obviously flawed, and looking for a less flawed system of morality. Even assuming christianity is true, that is a honest error, with the best of intentions at heart.
