As an attorney I cringe when people say, “what does that have to do with this.” The 1st rule of evidence is… the judge determines what is or is not relevant.

@HBBILY
@HBBILY 2 жыл бұрын
@@orelas167 exactly! We’re saying the same thing! :) So the law says, that evidence must be relevant to the case. Further rules define what makes evidence “relevant.” It’s a pretty broad standard. Rule 401 states to be relevant the evidence 1. Has a tendency to make a fact more or less probable than it would be without the evidence and 2. The fact is of consequence in determining the action. So during a trial, the judge decides questions of law. Meaning the judge interprets the law. So the judge ultimately interprets whether something meets the requirements found in rule 401 on relevance. Because the rules so broad often times the Judge will find the evidence to be relevant. Which is why Relevance is usually a bad objection. Hope this clarifications helps!

By the way wearing glasses, sunglasses is extremely disrespectful to the judge. It also makes him look like a smart ass.

Is there a reason it’s disrespectful? …Not trying to be rude, just curious. I remember hearing something similar with a different judge

@@Xixiblue Wearing sunglasses indoors is basically saying you are hiding your face/eyes intentionally, which refuses someone the respect of looking you in the eyes when either of you are speaking. It's like constantly looking away when someone is talking to you, very disrespectful.

He changed his mind and had his case recalled probably when he found out that he has a contract with the Judge Judy show to adjudicate his case. If memory serves me correctly, I remember her telling several uncooperative litigants that if they don't play by the rules, they can walk home and will not receive any appearance fees.

It's clear that Glenn only sued after the sister passed away, when she wouldn't be able to give any testimony on the incident. And because he knew his mother wasn't actually present during the incident, he thought he had a chance of winning a lawsuit. What a scumbag.
