Also, within the video I now see things they don't necessarily highlight, like 2:18 and before in the other matches De Gea passing charts, it jumps off the screen how badly, just how incredibly poorly De Gea is in possession and how he leads to turnovers. Just brutal. De Gea can only go to a counterattacking team in the future. His pay should be cut to less than 25% of what it is. Brutal.

Malacia-martinez- varane certainly make the team far better, the quick, fast, agile and in possesion they keep the ball well. If casemiro play as CDM then United will have good structure defensively and it allow their attacker to express and take risk more. What is more concerning is that we played a high line with a CB pairing that were half the width of the pitch away from each other at times and a midfield where 2 of of them were acting as play makers. No striker, wingers couldn’t do much because the ball didn’t get to them, out of possession we were all over the place and Ten Hag knew that would be the case because Klopp is predictable. Just as we saw in the 20/21 season, even if we are riddled with injuries, we don’t adapt to the players in the team and Klopp tries to play the same way. Trent really needs to move into Midfield IMO because his defending is atrocious when he is back and he’s normally not back anyway

Football can be simple. Manchester did the basic things you have to do when playing Liverpool. Don't play out from the back, don't press high (keep the field compact), and have an aggressive attitude. I don't know, if I have ever seen Bruno Fernandes close down this many players. Liverpool on the other hand looked tired.

Huge performances by Uniteds back 4, really something special. I’m happy for United to be more pragmatic, if you’re good at counter attacking and playing direct, teams start sitting back more which will allow the team to learn more of Ten Hags possession game.

This is a take that I haven't seen enough of. Ole-style counter attacking football, until yu've forced them to play a lower line at which point the ETH possesion style play gets easier. The key was leaving out Maguire, Shaw and Ronaldo. The players that came in for thise three really turned up in a massive way. Malacia got done like once or twice but made excellent recoveries. @@warrioroffpeace3673 no they dropped back because of the perceived threat he carries, not because he actively forces them back. Against a cutthroat heavy pressing team like Lvpl having a guy like Ronaldo on would suppress the attack because he's a burst player where he retains energy by trudging along the pitch and running in bursts, he would be pocketed playing like that. I like how you explained the conundrum VVD was in for that first goal, he's doing what he usually does which is defend space, there's a reason he's never the one making last ditch tackles but his play is heavily reliant on the system working and of course he's a huge part of that system but when he's playing with Gomez and no Fabinho and no Henderson on the right covering for Arnold, then of course he gets exposed. When Sancho scores, in that moment, VVD should switch his mindset and go after Sancho but years and years of conditioning is probably why he just holds the position, he didn't have a great game though, his job is to organize and clearly he didn't do that well.

I know seasons are long, and football's a squad game - so I expect Maguire and Shaw will of course play again - but, going forward, Ten Hag has to recognise Martinez/Varane/Malacia are the way forward for us. Sure, Malacia missed a few tackles, but the speed at which he got back up for the second tackle was almost supernatural. The guy never stopped hounding Salah, flying in, throwing him off, refusing to quit Martinez also does not mess about. Tackles everywhere, superb interceptions, and while he's the one defender we have who can play a quick-pass with accuracy (watch back how many times he split the midfield last night), he's also not afraid to hoof it out for a throw if he needs to, as opposed to Maguire's 'hold the ball and turn in a wide-circle until tackled' style. Varane also looked far more relaxed and like the Varane we knew, knowing Martinez would be there for him, and Dalot looked superb knowing Varane could cover him. Maguire causes panic for the other defenders which destroys our defensive solidity and entire team structure. Even McTominay looked improved with a better defence behind him.

Liverpool's owners promised Klopp would have around 60-80 million to spend this summer, however we have yet again had to self finance our signings. We have had a net transfer spend of 12 million. Like cmon FSG, Aston Villa have had like ten times that the last couple seasons. We can't compete for titles every year against teams that can sign players for fun. It's ridiculous.

Can we just, for a second, appreciate something that was said, that when Utd played City or Liverpool, Ole set his team up that way. Ole gets so much stick, yet he knew how to beat those teams and set up his limited squad to do just that, and also beat the smaller teams. He got Utd to 2nd in league and the final of a Euro comp. The problem for Ole was he was then dumped with new signings he clearly didn't want and had to change his tactics to a possession based team....which shocker, hasn't worked and does not work for this Utd team. So I think Ole is due some fking respect for what he did given the durge he had to work with

@@siddharthchoudhary6333 my entire point was in reference to the Ronaldo question made by the comment above mine. I think Eth is a more tactically astute coach, and today's game was about getting the much needed win, he wouldn't want to play like this for much of the season. I also feel he underestimated the league in his first two games and the reality check has enlightened him, the EPL is a different beast and he'd have to improvise more than he's ever done. Something ole was never great at, but he showed that today.

Ten Hag played out of his mind this match. I'm a Liverpool fan and i was on the edge of my seat the entire game watching those Man Utd plays. It's also sad to see how much a few absentees (Thiago, Fabinho, Núñez) can throw our balance off that much, it gives the impression that only the usual starting 11 know how to play a game together, and their dynamics are exclusive to them, so that when a sub or a replacement comes in the whole thing falls apart.

Quality video (as usual). I have one argument when comparing to Ole's Man United. Ole's side capitalized on the opponents mistakes and hit them on the counter. Ten Hag's United on Monday FORCED Liverpool into mistakes by pressing HARD. Ole's side was way more passive and biding their time for a chance, this side actively searched for it.
@paulshuttleworth6261
@paulshuttleworth6261 Жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s not really comparable. Ole’s team were very passive and lacking aggression really. They weren’t scared as such, but they played as the underdog, which was why they often had unusually good results against the top half teams, and poor against the bottom. They didn’t press, and they didn’t create chances, they countered against mistakes.

Yes, agreed it was a Ole style but it was much improved much better version of Ole Gonnar's style. There was lot of “counter-pressing" involved + Utd players played at very high intensity, very much efforts put in. ETH instilled some kinda' mentality don't know how😅 but found a way to persuade these players to play like he wants(not in genl coz that's possession based) but how he wanted them to play in specific against LIV & put in lots of efforts! And I guess a weakened LIV team also played a role, I know u will say Mane isn't such a miss as Firmino is a false 9 (but he isn't as much of a presser rather he is more involved in link-up play with midfielders i.e, he is more drilled in possession game not in defensive parts of the game). Then u will say Nunez also has the highest pressing no.s in Europe as a CF, but it's more than that, Sadio was more elite in terms of efficiency while pressing & he was an leader too on the pitch. Anyway Nunez also wasn't there to press on defensive mids. Fabinho was a big-big miss!! Hendo played out of posn thereby allowing the exploitation of gap +nt b/w TAA & CB. The style & tactics which Utd deployed would have completely been neutralised & negated had a full squad of LIV been avl. A Konate (*not Matip he is a ball playing CB whereas Konate can defend space), Fab, Hendo as RCM & Mane/Nunez at CF would have sufficed. Other than these 4 even Elliot would have worked instead of Thiago but these 4 were a big miss!

People will use this to bash Maguire. But VVD showed how CBs rely on the setup around them. He usually has Thiago-Fabinho-Henderson sitting in front. Replace 2 of them with a #10 and an aging #8 and he was all over the place. City are more solid because they have Walker and Cancelo covering and Gundogan's can sit deeper if not. Bit arrogant of Klopp to think he could get away with that

There's a lot of talk about whether the ideal for a team is to be a possession team like City / Barcelona, a pressing side like Liverpool or a counter-punching team like Solskjaer's United or a Mourinho / Simeone side. But surely the ideal should be to have the capacity to do all these things. France won the last World Cup that way, bossing possession and being able to open up teams that dropped deep, but also able to defend and win with less possession as they did in the semi against Belgium. If United can win these games as a counter-punching team and also dominate the ball and prise open defensive teams with a low block, they really will be back in business.

As a Liverpool fan we are absolutely shocking at the moment in transition, when we give the ball away it takes about 2 passes and teams are basically through against our defenders. We desperately need Thiago back as he’s always in the right place when we lose the ball, Gini was also very good at this and we’ve never really replaced him hence why we’re dying for a midfielder who can keep himself fit

It’s not Thiago IMO. Fabinho is the one that covers for a lot of the defense. I really think Henderson had a bad game as well. Just nobody stepped up to fill that defensive role. Everyone knows the fullbacks get way up the pitch and you need a CDM to cover for them but Hendo and Milner were not doing that. This game was lost in the midfield.
