Venkayya’s first draft of the flag was in red and green - the red representing Hindus and green the Muslims living in the country. He presented his design to Mahatma Gandhi during the latter’s visit to Vijayawada on April 1, 1921. The final version of the flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on July 22, 1947.
