I used "Notero" to get a table that has both the basic info from Zotero (title, authors, abstract, etc.) and my personalized Notion table (that has keywords I added, etc.). Then I copied it to Google Sheets to share with others from my group. Saved loads of time! Thanx Shay

@@ShaySharon After I did what you explained, I am interested if is it possible to automatically share all my highlights and notes which I add on papers in zotero (PDF viewer of zotera) to notion?
@ShaySharon2 ай бұрын
Hi! You can find the "Sync Notes" option under Zotero preferences. If you enable this option, all your notes should sync automatically. If you have notes and highlights on a PDF, you need to export them into the Zotero note first: Select a PDF -> open the context menu -> select "Add Note from Annotations". Let me know if it worked out for you!
@Alex-gw6pm2 ай бұрын
@@ShaySharon I could export the annotations to note in zotero, but I couldn't export them to notion, even with the option of "sync notes" is activated. Do you think I need to add a column for notes? 🤔 If yes, so I don't know how to make notion understand that this column must be for notes of a paper
@ShaySharon2 ай бұрын
Try to open the Notion page of the manuscript you exported into Notion: In your table, next to the "Name" you will see an "open" button. In the page you just opened, scroll all the way down. You should see your notes there. Let me know if that solves the problem for you

Q: How can I make it so that when a file is deleted in Zotero, Notion does so as well, and vice versa? A: As far as I know, this feature is not supported. The tool allows for a one-way push from Zotero to Notion, but it does not allow ongoing synchronization between the two platforms. In other words, deleting a reference in Zotero won't automatically delete it in Notion, and vice versa. However, there is a partial workaround: After updating your Zotero library, you can sync these changes to a new Notion page. I don't think it's very productive 😀. As a general practice, I don't actually remove entries from Notion. Instead, I tag them as "not relevant" or something similar, and then apply a filter to hide them. This approach allows me to archive data rather than permanently deleting it.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I really want to use this for my own research. Is there a way to make the Notion page private again after connecting Zotero? If I leave notes or other information in the pages of the database I do not want those to be open and available to anyone to the internet. Thank you.
@ShaySharon9 ай бұрын
Thank you! That's an excellent question. As far as I know, the page connected to Zotero has to remain public for that connection with Zotero to work. If someone has your link, they can access it. However, I don't see a way for people to get this link unless you give it to them. I have "search engine indexing" turned off under the sharing option, so people shouldn't be able to find it. Is there a way for a hacker to find a way to find your page? I assume the answer is yes. In my workflow I use a new Notion page for every new project I start. I duplicate the (public) Notion page that is connected to Zotero, and turn off the sharing option in the duplicated page. Then I empty the page that is connected to Zotero, and start a new project.

@@ShaySharon I don't get all information from zotero to notion, notes are not there,how can I fix that? thanks in advance
@ShaySharon10 ай бұрын
Hi. It seems that the "notes" from Zotero cannot be automatically exported into Notion. Since I do all my work in Notion, and I find it much more friendly (and fun) than Zotero, I add all my notes in Notion. I use Zotero just to collect the references and add them to my word documents. All the rest is done in Notion. I realize that is not very helpful as you already have notes in Zotero, but I was never able to automatically export the notes.

this was very helpful. If you have multiple collections in Zotero how can you can choose which collection it is added to?
@ShaySharon Жыл бұрын
Thanks Christina! To answer your question: When you click on the Zotero button in your browser, you can choose to which collection it will be imported. You will see a small dialog box that will apear near the Zotero button. You have about 3 seconds to change the collection, otherwise it will be imported into the last collection used.

@ShaySharon5 ай бұрын
Hi! Short answer - Yes. Check the link at the end of my reply. Long answer, yes, but I haven't played around with it myself. I don't pay attention to the citation style in Notion, so I don't know how complex it is to change it. Check out this link to read about it. It's from the developer of Notero that is responsible for this magic :-) github.com/dvanoni/notero/issues/1#issuecomment-937588773

@ShaySharon9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I haven't seen any integration of EndNote with Notion. On a personal note, I stopped using EndNote years ago because it failed me too many times. The developers have made much progress since, but I prefer Zotero nowadays. Integration with Notion is definitely one of the reasons.

Thanks for the awesome walk through! I really like your Notion template! My only issue is that the citation isn't in APA format. Is there a quick way to adjust the citation output? Thanks again!
@ShaySharon15 күн бұрын
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I don't know if there's a quick way to adjust the citation output. My workflow separates what I do with Notion and my final citation format. When I reach the stage of finalizing the writing, I move to Word and control the citation format through Zotero. If you find a way to quickly change it, please let me know!

@@ShaySharon Thanks for the response! Another question: is there a way to import my annotations from Zotero into your template in Notion? I know other "notero" templates have this feature, but your template is my favorite!
@ShaySharonКүн бұрын
Hi! Not that I know of... I mainly use readwise reader for annotations, which is a whole different workflow. So I haven't looked for ways to do it with Zotero and Notero.
@thepuscifer6 ай бұрын
Hi, does it work with in-line citations like it does in word?
@ShaySharon6 ай бұрын
Hi! Adding Zotero citations is similar to adding Word citations. You use the Zotero toolbar inside Word instead of Word's citations toolbar. The added benefit is the connection between Zotero and Notion, but inserting the references is done solely with Zotero and not Notion. I hope this answers your question
@thepuscifer6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the quick response! So I'm assuming there's no way to make the Notion-Zotero in-line citations function like the Word-Zotero in-line citations? In the sense that you can add citations to your Notion text and then make the bibliography out of the in-line citations in Notion?
@ShaySharon6 ай бұрын
Hi! Switching from Microsoft Word to Notion for manuscript creation would be a game-changer! I would love to take Microsoft Word out of my workflow. I've experimented with various methods, but the only result was citations appearing as web links within the text-definitely not a format that journals would appreciate when you submit your paper :-) If you discover a workaround, I'd be thrilled to hear about it! I guess it will be possible by using an AI feature that reads the citations and creates the bibliography accordingly. But I don't trust AI for research. It tends to make up stuff. I'm more than happy to create a KZfaq tutorial guide if you find a way!

@ShaySharon10 ай бұрын
Hi! In most cases it stems from Zotero not quitting completely before restarting it. It has a tendency to continue working in the background. I suggest you remove Notero completely and make sure you have the latest version of it. Then add it again, enable it in Zotero, and quit Zotero completely. To be sure you quit, open task manager (in windows) or force quit (in mac). I would also restart the computer because you already ran into issues before. Feel free to report back if it worked out for you or not

And one day Notion will close its project (servers) and your research will be lost.
@ShaySharon3 ай бұрын
Hi! That's an excellent point! But I don't use Notion to store my data. All my data is stored on non cloud services and drives, and Notion merely mirrors it. If Notion will be erased it will take me about 10-20 minutes to return to where I was, using a different (but less fun) method.
@zo55623 ай бұрын
@@ShaySharon Diversification of data is a salvation, but those ways of presenting information with all the hashtags and tables that you show in the video are a specific data format that is only relevant for notion, you can't automatically transfer them to other offline applications like Obsidian or Logseq in the same view that is convenient for YOU. My first comment is also true for Apple account, Dropbox and other applications you use. Since you are engaged in a very complex and important activity for humanity you should look for more secure and ethical applications for recording information, like Anytype, plus everything is as fun as Notion but encrypted and stored on your hard drive (mine is on a removable hdd), so it is only yours once (for now forever:). The most important thing is to write down and keep the vault key. Good luck with your research!
@ShaySharon3 ай бұрын
True, this presentation method uses Notion. But you can export it to markdown and html and use other programs to access it. If you're worried about the cloud-nature of Notion, as you mentioned, there are other apps available. Obsidian is a great app that also keeps all the information on your computer, and there are many more. For me - I like Notion and don't rely on it for storage. It's a tool I use to create content and enjoy it. The Zotero - Notion link (Notero) saves me so much time and makes it so enjoyable. And this is my #1 priority
