Age 51, very active. I mountain bike and race BMX. Found out two days ago I have a 4.6cm thoracic aneurysm. My dad died of a stomach aneurysm at 53 but he smokes. Thought since I was so active I had avoided that gene being passed down. I'm bummed of course, but my wife had open heart surgery 7 years ago to have a stint put in and I know what to expect. Now starts the journey. Hoping and praying mine doesn't grow, but at the same time I now feel locked down from a ton of exercise that I enjoy because of the ticking time bomb feeling. My dad was getting ready for a fishing trip when he passed away in the front yard. Ughhh!!

Just been diagnosed with a 5cm thoracic aneurysm. Currently getting as much info as I can to help survive this. Thanks to my Doctor who picked up an unexpected heart murmur and sent me straight to a cardiologist, otherwise I would have been dead in 2 years!

I have one as well. My biggest concern is for my children in that I may have passed it down to them. I've tried to get all of them to have a CT done just to be on the safe side; they do not listen very well. I'm most worried about my son who lifts weights. I told him many times not to lift heavy, just light weights. Good luck to everyone! Thank you for this video, very informative.

I have just discovered that I have an ascending aorta aneurism. I have found this video extremely comforting in it’s clear explanation of the condition and methods of repair, although I am not a doctor. It has put my mind at rest, that it is not the end of the road! Thank you very much

I have a 4.6cm ascending aortic aneurysm that's been the same size for over 6 years. It's a shocking diagnosis, but I try to live my life without worrying about it too much. I wish you the best of luck!

Having said that, yes I do get an echocardiogram and a CT scan. I'm not recommending we ignore it; just realize that each day is a gift.

If possible, please plan to do surgery before you got emergency like me. ❤

@@peacefuldaizy5717 Just got this diagnose...pretty rough feeling right now. I have not much that can do to improve( condition, cholesterol, bmi, all good, Calcium score was 0.... low blood pressure)Well, i have a very stressful job, guess that is the cause. Planning a early retirement in 3 years. If i live that long :)

Hi, good video. Note the latest Guidelines say 5 cm for sporadic ascending in high-volume centres. And as part of atherosclerosis mgmt, don't forget to do an Lp(a). Evidence of aortic implications. I had a PAU, possibly related to a very high (200) Lp(a), which then kicked off a dissection beneath the LSA at only 4.0 cm there, 4.5 cm ascending. Survived!

I'm a 65 yo and have been informed two weeks ago that I have an ascending root and descending aortic aneurysms of 4.5 and 4.7 cm. Sounds like I'm in trouble, IDK.

How are you now? My ascending is 4.1 I will be 66 next month. To me this is scary 😦

Obviously you found it and now you can manage it. I’m a 70 year old man with a 4.8cm ascending aorta. I’m monitoring my BP and living a normal life. I watch what I eat. Get plenty of sleep and keep my weight right. No smoking or alcohol at all. Although alcohol in extreme moderation shouldn’t be bad for you. I have to get a CT every 6 months and thank God it’s only grown .2 cm in 3 years. Talk to your dr and let him know you’re concerned and if it needs to be monitored. I’m actually kind of waiting for technology to come up with better non invasive repairs for the ascending aorta which I’m sure they will and just get it repaired before it reaches 5.0cm which is the tipping point in men. 5.5 I believe is when they start considering surgery. Either way good communication with your dr,a healthy lifestyle,BP control and I don’t think you should worry yourself at all

It could take years for it to expand .5 cm.
