Management Trainee or Graduate Program Assessment Centre and Interview
Have you successfully applied as a Management Trainee and have been invited to an Assessment Centre? An assessment centre is basically a long thorough interview during which a Company assesses your skills and try to gauge your potential. While normal job interviews usually take half an hour to an hour, and may be conducted 3 times involving a panel, an assessment centre usually takes place for one whole day, or sometimes two, and consists of around 5-8 sessions. #multiplecareers #managementtrainee #personalsuccess #careerchange
Companies expect a lot from the Management Trainees, as they will be investing a lot of resources in them to groom them to become potential future senior leaders of the company. Here I want to share 7 tips for how you can ace an Assessment Centre, and be accepted to become a Management Trainee.
Assessment Centres are tools used by corporations to find talent for future leadership positions. After passing the assessment centre, you would start out as Management Trainee. Oftentimes you will directly start as Manager and start working while completing various training sessions.
There are a multitude of tests/exercises/tasks: Case study, presentation, group task, in-tray exercise, role play, interview, psychometric tests, which can be all intimidating, but it all boils down to several important things that you need to keep in mind and demonstrate throughout the assessment centre.
After a brief explanation of each of the exercises/tasks, I will give you hints about what the assessors are looking for in candidates when performing each exercise or test, and specific tips and strategies you can apply to shine.

Hey, it was very greate. I have seen a lot videos about this topic, and they were good but yours. They are right to the point and very fruitefullll. Don't you have anv videos specificalluy about Case Studies?
@MultipleCareers
@MultipleCareers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I appreciate it! My assessment centre session was a long time ago so I don't remember them anymore. I think what could be useful is, if you don't know what kind of case study you'll get, to just prepare a framework (same of customer-role playing). Basically you keep in mind which aspects/frame of thoughts you always need to consider, just an example: vision, strategy, leadership, people, finances, marketing, process, legal if applicable, time vs money, and be versatile with these categories. If you got a handle on this, you'll do a good job with any case study, because as I said in the video, the important thing is that you can present a clear and logical thought process and be able to communicate it. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for the video. May I know, during your one-to-one interview with the panels according to specific department, what questions were asked? Did the questions were asked according to the panel's specialized area? For example, if that panel comes from Sales department, so the questions were crafted according to sales area?
@MultipleCareers

It will really differ from program to program and company. In my case, at a multinational bank, the panel consisted of 3-4 senior vps (around that level and above) who had broad experience across marketing, sales, product development, hr etc. There were specific questions but not per department, and not on a level you couldn't solve (I cannot remember the specific question as it was some time ago!). If you're a management trainee-to-be, they won't be expecting you to know everything on such a detailed level. It's more about being able to think and reason logically, and demonstrate that you have good general knowledge and common sense as well. When I look at what I know now after having worked in banking and compared that with what I knew back then during the assessment centre, I realize that my answers must've been pretty basic and many incorrect as well. But it didn't matter as my reasoning seemed to be right.

thank you so much for this :) I really needed it. but was wondering if this also applies to any other assessment? because I have a graduate program assessment for architecture and I don't really know what to expect! I'm hoping it is something similar to the one you explained, I hope to ace it.. wish me luck!
@MultipleCareers
@MultipleCareers 2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, glad if it was useful. Even within the financial industry itself the assessment centres will vary in structure and scope. So I would guess that for an architecture program it would also be different. I do believe, however, that a similar approach and mindset would apply, i.e. being resourceful, being able to communicate and work as a team. I wish you all the best! And if you don't mind, please share with the rest of us how (different) your architecture assessment went. Thank you!
