AFCON 2023 has been legendary, and Ivory Coasts story in particular has been incredible to watch. After a great start to the tournament, things immediately soured for the hosts and Ivory Coast lost their next two group stage matches, and were seemingly eliminated. They looked terrible, they sacked their manager - and suddenly, they were back in it.
Now, they are gaining steam with every single match - and after an incredible comeback against Mali, Ivory Coast are in the AFCON final vs Nigeria. Surely they won’t… will they?

Giant Killings all over the place and Chaotic Moments scattered like Groundnut at the Market. It's the Best Tournament outside of the World Cup.

You are spot on. I keep telling people that Afcon is the most interesting and exciting international tournament after the world cup. Even the Euros and Copa America do not come near

@@abstraqtphilosophy7357 Exactly. My biggest problem with it is that here in the US it's broadcast on beIN Sports and it's not as widely available on TV & Streaming Services. So I did my best to cover the AFCON through a Series of Social Media Posts and direct people towards profiles who are covering it on site. Hopefully that before the next one maybe a more available network could take the broadcast rights. I've seen CBS inviting African Football Pundits to cover the AFCON because of how Interesting it's got.

Being South African, this is my greatest AFCON of all time. I know they'll always talk about our '96 win but these recent sport Ws such as the RWC, has the country so united rn.

This is hands down one of the best AFCONs in living memory. Its a tad disappointing that its not getting the coverage it deserves. Its been suvh a wild ride! 😅

Asian and African Cups have been insane this year. So many upsets and this weekend, there will be the finals. Asia tomorrow and Africa on Sunday. I won't miss them as the hosts can win. Gasset gave an interview to a French newspaper and he said he's happy about the decision and he still watches the AFCON, staying in touch with Ivory Coast. It gives hope to Germany as the hosts of the Euro.

Jordan and Ivory Coast's stories were insane. Only qualified as the Best 3rd Place teams, they are still making through the Final! This could be like Portugal in Euro 2016. They finished 3rd behind Hungary and Iceland, not even grabbing a single win in group stage, only winning the KO game once in 90 minutes against Wales in semifinal, but defeated the host France in the Final after CR7's infamous injury. Also, Emerse Fae could be similar to Roberto Di Matteo, when he won the Champions League with Chelsea back in 2012. All of this happened, despite Di Matteo being served as a caretaker manager after Andre Villas-Boas got sacked midseason. Chelsea made a huge comeback against Napoli, then defeated a strong Barcelona side with Fernando Torres' late equaliser goal on the 2nd leg at Camp Nou, and finally bested Bayern Munich on penalties, which happened at Bayern Munich's own stadium, thanks to Didier Drogba's late equaliser and the winning penalty on the shootout. I think it's a good opportunity for Qatar and Ivory Coast to complete a fairytale campaign as a host. Qatar had suffered a disappointing World Cup campaign and had a tough results in 2023, but still managed to perform so well in this Asian Cup, beating Uzbekistan and Iran, who were the strong teams. Even though Jordan had its big fairytale run like beating Iraq and South Korea, it's quite difficult for any teams to beat Qatar throughout this tournament due to the compact defense and attack, as well as winning mentality.

WIsh I had watched far more of AFCON, I have historically found the tournament very defensive and cautious. Apparently, Cote d-Ivoire decided against that

Growing up Ivory Coast was a force with Players like Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba, Nigeria was never in the Picture i don't know what happened they couldn't even qualify for the World Cup.
