child psychologist here: we use this method called ACT; Acknowledge the feeling, Communicate the limit, Target alternatives (very similar to what she uses in this video)! When your child has big feelings it’s important to label that feeling so they can learn. “i know you are feeling frustrated, but we cannot watch tv all day, we can find another fun activity to do instead”! Then offer time for emotion regulation. Also some children 0-17 do not have emotional self regulation skills yet! It’s extremely important that you offer co-regulation if your child cannot seem to calm down on their own! It looks like this mama had modeled self regulation skills and used co-regulation with her kiddo before, so he now has the skill to calm himself down! Just know not all kiddos can do this yet, some adults can’t either so it’s important to teach regulation too!

How do we co regulate?
@mckaylak33
@mckaylak33 2 ай бұрын
Co-regulation can look like modeling emotion regulation to your child/doing emotion regulation with them! So using grounding techniques (i.e. tight hugs, progressive muscle relaxation, holding something cold and laying down), coping skills, or breathing methods (i.e. rainbow breathing) with your child. It can look like “i know you are feeling *name emotion*, when we feel *emotion* we can calm our bodies by *coping skill* (i.e. hugs, walking away, laying down, or taking time for ourselves).

Agree. And we should explain, WHY it makes sense, not to watch TV all day long. Otherwise the kid won't understand the decision and will only take it as an order.

Kind of interested in what you think about her filming these vulnerable moments and sharing them without consent? Kind of cancels the good out, imo. She is making money by filming and sharing this so she can sell to parents. Pretty gross really.

No parent is perfect and that’s ok, as long as you’re truly doing your best, like continuing to learn, like you are here, then your child will feel that. @@Pufflelover2684 😂thank you for your prematurely "wise" opinion....babies don't understand lectures, they live in the moment. You reroute a child to the new activity by making it sound fun or more fun. You don't make a big deal about behavior day to day. Your reasoning is not merited. I can talk any kid into moving on in a few seconds, you plan to waste fifteen minutes to pretend you're somehow wise, explaining nonsense to a baby. Someone who believes in the tooth fairy, has no idea what point you're trying to make. Practice this activity on your dog, he won't understand it either. Thank you for the levity this post presented😅

@@user-ly1bi3qi3plol you clearly don’t have kids. Many kids will have tantrums for 30+ minutes over something and distraction does not work. Kids are not stupid. My 1 and a half year old knows exactly what I’m doing if I try to placate him with a toy or something fun or food (food is literally is love language lmao). He gets more angry if I treat him like a baby and don’t acknowledge or give his feelings the time of day. Though, I never do it while he’s having a tantrum. He hates it when I talk over his crying. I’d also hate it if someone was trying to shut me up while I cried.

This is gentle parenting, it’s teaching in a calm soft way. Why Ruby Franke got popular for her parenting is beyond me, because this is how you do it. Kids don’t need to be embarrassed or shamed by their parent because they made a mistake. They’re learning how to be people, and if they have reactions you don’t like, it’s probably observed behavior. Yelling at kids when they are learning to navigate life is harboring such an unhealthy environment where they won’t be able to call you when something is wrong as they get a little older. You’re doing the dang thing mama!

You can go outside and play… create a whole bunch of fun activities! ❤❤❤ this was always my favorite part of parenting! I made gigantic bubbles!!! String and a long skinny stick from the yard!! We spent hours out there… letting them run and slide and play in the mud!!❤❤❤ my daughter still remembers that! ❤❤ good job momma!!
