child psychologist here: we use this method called ACT; Acknowledge the feeling, Communicate the limit, Target alternatives (very similar to what she uses in this video)! When your child has big feelings it’s important to label that feeling so they can learn. “i know you are feeling frustrated, but we cannot watch tv all day, we can find another fun activity to do instead”! Then offer time for emotion regulation. Also some children 0-17 do not have emotional self regulation skills yet! It’s extremely important that you offer co-regulation if your child cannot seem to calm down on their own! It looks like this mama had modeled self regulation skills and used co-regulation with her kiddo before, so he now has the skill to calm himself down! Just know not all kiddos can do this yet, some adults can’t either so it’s important to teach regulation too!
@imfrenchfries74302 ай бұрын
How do we co regulate?
@mckaylak332 ай бұрын
Co-regulation can look like modeling emotion regulation to your child/doing emotion regulation with them! So using grounding techniques (i.e. tight hugs, progressive muscle relaxation, holding something cold and laying down), coping skills, or breathing methods (i.e. rainbow breathing) with your child. It can look like “i know you are feeling *name emotion*, when we feel *emotion* we can calm our bodies by *coping skill* (i.e. hugs, walking away, laying down, or taking time for ourselves).
@Logica872 ай бұрын
Agree. And we should explain, WHY it makes sense, not to watch TV all day long. Otherwise the kid won't understand the decision and will only take it as an order.

Kind of interested in what you think about her filming these vulnerable moments and sharing them without consent? Kind of cancels the good out, imo. She is making money by filming and sharing this so she can sell to parents. Pretty gross really.

This is gentle parenting, it’s teaching in a calm soft way. Why Ruby Franke got popular for her parenting is beyond me, because this is how you do it. Kids don’t need to be embarrassed or shamed by their parent because they made a mistake. They’re learning how to be people, and if they have reactions you don’t like, it’s probably observed behavior. Yelling at kids when they are learning to navigate life is harboring such an unhealthy environment where they won’t be able to call you when something is wrong as they get a little older. You’re doing the dang thing mama!
