"Manbroiderers," or men who stitch, are becoming more and more common and bring a unique perspective to the cross stitch and textile design community. This video features Jamie "Mr X Stitch" Chalmers, Stitcher Moose, and Kaffe Fassett. It also shows some traditional textile patterns and discusses design ideas for men's cross stitch projects. Hopefully this video will inspire more men to take up the wonderfully relaxing pastime of stitching!
*I forgot to discuss Fine Cell Work, an incredible British organization that helps incarcerated prisoners (95% male) learn skills and earn money by learning how to stitch. How these men's lives are changed by stitching is truly inspiring. The link to the site is below in the related links.

Retired, 62. I started cross stitching 20 years ago and I'm still doing it. I had to study and practice a lot but the effort was rewarded because I learned and developed better techniques. It's such a great hobby! As Aaron wrote below, it's another art form anyone can practice.

I like variety and trying new things so both neutral and bright colors appeal to me. Neutral and traditional colors tend to match more items and are safer and seen as more professional. Bright colors are fun and new and lift your spirits and help you break out of your comfort zone. I like completing crafts that a machine cannot duplicate or duplicate well and are somewhat custom and unique. This is one reason I have an interest in bead embroidery, much of it is done by hand. I would have had a hard time learning cross stitch without this channel. Right now I am working on a blue winter tree cross stitch kit and a sunflower cross stitch kit. I find the hobby helps me focus and I listen to some of my favorite youtube channels such as Dave Ramsey and various musicians while completing the kits. Keep up the good work and thank you!

My brother used to cross stitch when he was a kid and he's been wanting to get back into since I have. My boyfriend did a quick project recently, too, and he loved it!

I am a happily married man with 5 kids. I like to do guy stuff, but I also love to cross stitch in my downtime. Love this post. I thought I was the only guy who loved to use a needle and floss.

love this! As a guy, its so hard to find relatable cross stitch content. I do love flowers (hence the name!) and cute things, but its so limited out there when it comes to masculine designs. project bags/needle cases and so on would be a great idea, and I'm loving the houndstooth!

Great video! I especially like what you said...."gender should not limit what you do". I believe we will not have true gender equality until it is 'normal' for men to do 'women's work'. Just as women should not be shunned from traditional male roles, men also should not be shunned from traditionally female roles.

I actually learned how to cross stitch from my mums partner when I first started out. He only taught me the basics but that was all I really needed at the time.

I love this video!! So much yes for this! I love the idea about breaking down gender roles/barriers, they do more harm than good. I'm so glad that you are interested in this because there is a big hole in the market for men and also women who don't like all the cutesy/fantasy designs out there. I love the idea of patterns that incorporate "masculine" aesthetics like houndstooth or plaids. I gravitate towards cooler and more subtle tones over bold and bright ones, however I do like having fun pops of color too. I think I like the finished look of more neutral or traditional colors for those patterns, but I like having the fun colors as I'm stitching to keep it interesting. That flask holder idea is a great one, and utilitarian items I think are a great way to get guys interested in cross stitch. Can't wait to see where this idea takes you!!

I've been stitching for a couple years now. I havent completed a lot of pieces as ive gotten very deep into large pieces only to find a mistake requiring lots of fixing. Despite all that I have found it very therapeutic and when I do finish a piece very rewarding. My Wife keeps thinking of getting into it but doesnt have the patience yet. The amount of nerdy patterns for my favorite shows and such has been very motivating to keep stitching.

I like the idea of a project bag, needle holder, etc. I would definitely be interested. And I think I would lean towards the more traditional colors, but I like the idea of an option for the crazier color combos too. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hi, I use to do a lot of cross stitching, canvaswork, hardanger, etc back in the mid to late 90s, then was bitten by the quilting bug in 2000....I'm also a guy and a fellow Canadian. I just found your channel, it was one of those "got here from a link, to a link, to a link, to a link, and so on" lol.
