James is great at the grey area. A football fan who isn’t polarised. I dislike how city have achieved all this OF COURSE, and I hope they get punished for it, but I can’t deny I wanted them to do it last night. There are some likeable people in the club and the football they play is unreal at times. Life is grey

@@matthewbrears2129 you seem to be very black and white about “how they achieved it”. No room for nuance and ambiguity there, it seems. Certainly no notion of innocent until proven guilty. I’ll bet you believed every word Eleanor Williams said, and clamoured for Jordan Trengove to be locked up for life. Don’t mention Chelsea, Newcastle or PSG’s financial transgressions will you, because they definitely don’t exist because they haven’t been accused. I wonder why you’re not mentioning the doping that Liverpool have been accused of? They must be guilty, they’ve been accused of it, even by their own fans.

I'm a city fan and I'm confused about something. Why does everyone feel like Manchester City owe everyone something. The club owes neutral fans nothing. I've never cared once about another team winning something. West Ham winning is nice. But after 15 seconds I couldn't care less. I also don't care that all these established historical clubs don't like that another club is taking a piece of their pie. This is what every fan of every club would dream of. 115 allegations will change absolutely nothing for me.

Also this whole organic thing you mention at the end. What does this mean? Has no other club spent money. Has no other club had foreign players in their 11. It just doesn't make sense. Man city spent money like everyone else. Man city has foreign players like everyone else. Man city have a owner with lots of money like everyone else, not backed by a nation state by the way the club is owned by an individual. That would be like saying the glazers are backed by the USA.

It's only people who are perpetually online who vehemently hate City. I live in a small North Eastern Town (support Sunderland) and every single person I know in real life (Newcastle & Sunderland fans - my Town is 50/50 each way & then the odd Liverpool glory hunter from the 80s) love watching City and were happy for them last night. and for the "Sportswashing" lot, the way I see it is I would far rather "Oil/Blood money" be spent on enriching the lives and the local area of an English Club than be idly sitting in the bank account of someone insanely wealthy. Just look at the complex that they have built at City, when it was formerly barron land that looked like a blight on Manchester, now it's bustling with footballing excellence and more importantly creating jobs and giving people a living. I wholeheartedly hope that Newcastle's owners do such things for them too.

Yes, that's thing to keep in mind--this is all very good for Northern England's finances, tourism and urban infrastructure as a whole (which pains me to say it as a Welsh fan of Wales nt, but nvm it's not about me😔), and so it's odd for English people & EPL fans to be quite so sour about it. If anything, you're taking these petr0states to the cleaners and making a mockery and a hypocrisy of their Medieval values for your own gain. Result.

City fan - 50 years and counting. Thanks as always James for your considered words. On a day such as this, I look back on flying in ( Mancunian living in the US) to watch a match in the third tier v Wycombe Wanderers, and we lost! I fully accept that there is no way we could have had this success without our owners from Abu Dhabi. I dearly wish we were not owned by this group. I wish there was a local Manchester lad owning the team that made his fortune with a fruit and veg stall outside the ground.... BUT, we do not live in a fairytale world. City, with their financial clout have actually been very restrained in their transfer dealings. In the dreaded net spend charts - over the last 5 years - they are around 15th in the Premier League. It is hard to take the moralizing from the big 3 in particular. I am aware that this is whataboutism, but fans of these clubs do not care at all about human rights, oil etc, they care about winning, and that they are not winning. We shall see how it plays out with the 115 charges. If City cheated, then we have to face the consequences. If we get thrown out of the league, I will be the first to buy a ticket to our game v Oldham in the National League :-) CTID. Thanks as always for your content James, have a great summer.

Well said, and congratulations. As a neutral/non-PL fan (prefer non-league tbh, the game's better) I have to agree with you that if City are culpable, every big Prem club with 0ligarch backing is, too, and that if you have to go down then the entire PL should be dismantled and stripped of ill-gotten wealth in the same way. The entire League is built on this sportswashed money, so it's unfair and irresponsible as well as hypocritical to scapegoat just one club because they're unpopular with neutrals then pretend that the issue is resolved.

Grew up with my Grandad talking about City winning the league in 1968. We were the best side in England, and I couldn’t even dream of that with the reds dominating (8/10 Prem titles). Relegation, mid table, relegation, was three years for us and the season later, in the third division, we saw Man United do a parade for winning the treble. So when people say, “Well you didn’t earn this”, especially if they’re an “Elite” club fan, I can only role my eyes. “You haven’t had any troughs” some have said. I’m sorry what? We have the record for the least goals scored at home in a Prem season. We have been lower than all these clubs, we have watched true issues and turmoil. Man United fans would fall to their knees at a 8th place finish. We as fans have truly earned this. These moments will live with me forever, and I’ll be able to share my story of when we were the best. There’s always a falloff, so I’m gonna enjoy it whilst we have it. And to the idea of fans only joining due to success. I’m not one, but I have no issue with it personally. That’s how Man United became so big, that’s why Real Madrid have fans all over the world. Chelsea don’t have fans from the US because all of them have family born and raised in west London. That’s sport… it’s just about sticking with the club when it inevitably drops. So if you as a rival fan say “Well if feels like nothing to me”, that’s fine, because it’s not about you. But don’t dare try and lecture me about what it’s worth to us. Manchester is Blue.

"Find me a club at the top of the game who has ... no billionaire owners" Uhhh, that's physically impossible. The top teams are worth billions. If you own a billion-pound asset, you're a billionaire. Big clubs are all owned by rich people. No one is debating that. There are different kinds of owners though. Some invest a lot of money. Some invest none. Some actively take money out of the club. Man Utd is a reasonably organic club - and I say that as an Arsenal fan. They spend a lot of money (to be honest, mostly waste it) but their revenue is massive.

Goldbridge saying City bought the UCL. So bitter. And factually incorrect - in the table of net transfer spend in the Prem over the last 5 years, City are down in 10th position - £225m net spend (compared with revenues in of around £2.5bn over the same period btw). Man United are 2nd in that table, with a net transfer spend of £540m, and the only reason they're not the biggest net spenders is because, this season alone, Chelsea have splashed out £600+m. So City have far from "bought" the UCL, credit should be given for how well the club is being run, which includes a comparative efficiency in the transfer market over the other top clubs. Just look at all the big-money duffers Man U & Chelsea have signed recently, it's almost unbelieveable. Meanwhile, City are picking up Haaland for £53m (buyout clause), Alvarez for £15m & Akanji for £15m. In addition, both Chelsea & Man U have a higher annual wage bill, and lower annual revenue, than Man City

Brighton on the Cup semis against United and Newcastle in the Carabao final, you can play better than the opposition but you must put the ball in the net, at least more than the other team. Haaland, in part, made the goal.because he was occupying the two CBs and so no-one was watching Rodri. When it comes to talking about Man City I think the first issue to check off is no matter what we say or what has been alleged, Man City fans should and will feel incredibly proud of their achievements and it’s not up to us to dictate their emotions. When it comes to the actual merit of the clubs achievements I don’t think there’s a discussion to be had, it’s obvious how they’ve achieved this success and regardless of the decision in courts about being guilty or not it is a soured achievement. It is rather sad how everything they do achieve is followed by counterpoints of financial doping and sports washing, but that is repercussions of not only their actions but the inability to stop it by the same organisations that let them do it in the first place. It does leave a bitter taste in your mouth and that for me is incredibly sad.

The amount of salt online is astounding! The 115 charges and they only won because of money are such a petty thing to bring up. I don't support West Ham either but I was filled with joy watching that late winner and felt proud of a British club winning with passion. I was just incredibly lucky to be born in 2003, and witness the club's meteoric growth whilst I was growing up. I obviously never knew the behind the scenes controversy of a nation state takeover, I just loved my club because it was my club. It was my dad's club. It was my Grandads club. And that's the thing for true city fans, it's like a family. We understand why people don't like us. If it was up to me, we shouldn't have allowed nation states to become major players in our sport. But that doesn't matter to us as city fans because we understand the soul of the club. We understand that despite the investment and all the money, the club's core still remains, and so we're going to celebrate our triumph with our team.

14:43 as a foreigner I don't consider man city the bad guys or to be precise not anymore. In the early stages, man city was just spending money, buying stars ( what PSG is doing now) and I didn't like them. But recently their spending was smarter and more efficient. They got themselves Guardiola and the way he played is beautiful. In addition they incorporated some young players from the academy and it changed my point of view of them. In the opposite PSG, at first I really like them because, despite buying Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was a big star, the other players were not stars very good players, very talented but did not prove anything yet. They also had some academy players but they changed their philosophy in 2017 and now I don't like. To be honest I hate them I don't want them to win any UCL final I was glad they lost in 2020 and ironically it's one of their academy player coman that scored against them... I really like man utd, I didn't even know there was another club in Manchester but after Ferguson departure ... It's not the same anymore. Man utd are saying money won, money got them their first CL but in these last 5 years man utd spend more than man city ... We are talking about a league where the relagated ones have more money than most cl teams in group stages. People were worrying about the super League but it already exists it's called the premier league

What people like james fail to understand is that the only reason clubs like psg and man city exist is because the model set up was not as fair as they want to believe. clubs like man utd, ac milan etc etc had a headstart and even before the "money clubs" it was only clubs like that winning essentially all the time. why? because they could sign the best young talents, they could pay the transfer fees (rio ferdinand was a transfer record), they could offer the highest salaries, but people like james are willfully blind to that fact. go look at every league and their history. Should all the spanish clubs be mad cause only barca and real were successful? or should italian fans be mad that 4 clubs dominated their history? in the 80s ac milan attracted the best dutch talent of the time (gullit, van basten and rijkaard) cause they could pay the highest transfer fees and highest salaries plus they were a historically succesful club with name recognition. if parma said we have this project come join us, would that trio have done it? this is just one example of that. celtic and rangers are historic clubs in scotland without the huge financial backing yet they are the only ones successful. you supposedly smart people convineintly ignore that. people like james will never try to question that because it doesnt fit their agenda. The system is the reason clubs like city and psg exist. instead of being angry at them for trying to be succesful be mad at the system for being so rigged that you need multi billioneres to even compete. and i know people like james will point to clubs like brighton. leicester, athletico etc who have been successful despite the fact, but clubs like that are outliers of every era. blackburn in the 90s villa in the 80s, frankfurt in the 50s etc etc.clubs like that got raided for their talent even before city and psg because the legacy clubs always had more money to offer. THIS ISNT A MODERN DAY ISSUE. So James and people like James, stop putting these asterisks beside clubs like city and being ignorant clowns to the real issue.BE BETTER. this agenda you folks push is embarrassing.

Love the vids as always James - I'm not sure I can get behind the idea of winning trophies because you a have a financial boost is 'not organic'. I remember watching football back in the 90s when there were arguably 5-6 teams that dominated European football - Man United, AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona. There was almost a decade where no other team could compete against them in their respective domestic leagues and it was always just them in the UCL finals. We can argue how 'organic' these teams were even then as I think they still had quite a lot of financial boosts compared to other teams around them. Having said that, I always stated that the beauty of football is that it is cyclical - I can't see why anyone ever could shame Man City for their current success given that no one shamed the abovementioned 6 teams when they were winning trophies in the morning and in the evening in the 90s. In another 10 years, there will be another 'Man City' which people will probably have a go at and say it isn't 'organic', but truth of the matter is, football has been that way for over 30 years now....

I think Pep didn't over think too drastically this time round, I think Pep of the past may have been tempted to play Bernardo as a 8 and then play Foden or Mahrez on the left instead of what he did in keeping Stones, and as a result they didn't get caught out as much because of Stone's surperb positioning and knowing when to sit a little deeper or push a little higher, and equally Bernardo's work rate backwards.

If you're picking up City on their FFP, then surely you have to pick up Arsenal on what is quite frankly the ultimate cardinal sin English football has ever witnessed. Are we letting them get away with it because it was 100 years ago? Well, City's breaches were 10+ years ago now, what's the difference?

I’ve been going to matches since I was a kid, so nearly 25 years now. I remember watching the likes of United and Liverpool win everything there is to win (and arsenal who won a few trophies back then). We all knew it’s because they had all the money in the world for that era. Uniteds winning streak was because of money in the late 80s which has been going on for nearly 40 years now. So I can understand why other fans are now throwing mud at city as a club because I’ve been there myself and felt the same the way I did against United / Chelsea / arsenal / Liverpool etc. But at the end of day, we all want our owners to be throwing silly money at our clubs, and I think there is a jealousy and bitterness against us because we were a nothing club when we got taken over. Yes we’ve won a lot of trophies in the past (including a European trophy which people seem to dismiss). Forget the ALLEGED breaches, everyone other than United Chelsea and Liverpool all know what a shambles FFP is in the first place. It’ll always be there to stop teams competing, which in itself is killing the sport. We essentially won the lottery and I can admit that, but someone who’s just landed back from Istanbul with my dad, I can safely say that I do not really care what people say about us 😂

I mean look at it this way. In term of being a really good owners, City's owner have been one of THE BEST owner in the Premier League. He helped lift us from a mid table team to a force to be reckoned with. Helped introduce structure to our club, invest good money, take good care of the players, take good care of the managers and take good care of the community around Manchester. Most Premier League clubs hates their owners, especially the Big 6. Your Kroenke, FSG, Glazers. That alone tell you how differently run this club is to your usual English club. City on the other hand, genuinely love Sheikh Mansour.

I couldnt give a toss about whether other people care. I dont give a toss about other clubs when they win. When Chelsea had their success, I was just like "okay, so they're the team to beat" ALL CLUBS SPEND MONEY. ALL THE BEST TEAMS SPEND THE MOST MONEY. WE JUST DO IT BETTER THAN THE REST. FFP is nonsense. Imagine telling a fighter that they're allowed more steroids than someone else. City fan from the 1960’s here. A few points not covered though. 115 charges not breaches - nothing whatsoever proven but a strategy of long term degradation through comments like yours. The smarter neutral fans can see the games being played but you’ve not picked it up at all even for balance. Not enough analysis on why the PL pushed ahead after four years of nothing, why the charges were deliberately configured for maximum brand damage and why are the PL afraid to convene their “panel”. If you are going go all sanctimonious and serious on the charges you’d have an obligation to be thorough and balanced. City not State Owned, Mansour owns 73% as a private investment and has made a huge profit from the best run club side in Europe. His private car collection exceeds the value of his total investment in City for Christs sake, it is no more a state project than when the Saudi’s moved in to British horse racing. Football was reconfigured in the early nineties for the benefit of a few clubs. City have smashed the model to pieces and the establishment are kicking and screaming about it. They’ve tried three times to take City down but their failures have been spectacular and these 115 charges will flop. They are simply too extreme and the PL at the behest of Levy and the red shirted clubs have hugely overplayed their hand. The pL is a cartel and not survive these charges. Probably a good thing. Liverpool and United want a Super League to operate like the Harlem Globetrotters. Like Soccer Aid without the charity…no thanks, I’ll take sporting excellence.

It may sound ridiculous but i honestly think that man city's colours are one of the things thay count against them. The pale blue is so emotionless, cold and clinical, its one of the reasons i find them so painfully boring (not thay city fans care). Its one of the reasons their stadium seems so dull even if they actually do have good fans, it doesnt inspire passion. I genuinely think there would be less apathy towards them if they played in a different colour.

XG being higher than ur opponent doesn’t necessarily mean you were better In fact it is an indication of your failure to covert your chances and score goals Plus inter XG included that header that was an offside that wasn’t given since officials were quite bad @ this game Which nobody brought up much or discussed despite the refs were way below par 4 a CL final If that offside header was a goal and didn’t hit the crossbar, VAR would hv def disallowed it

I’m confused is it the fact that they are state-sponsored? Or it’s an issue with the ethics of the country? Because there are owners who are richer than the countries and some who have got there with much less ethical means. Also for example Ireland has had a recent windfall and there is talk of making a investment group similar to PIF and is considering buying a football club as a investment would this cause the same issues? If it’s the ethics is this issue then are their problems with clubs owned by Chinese businesses? that have benefited from Xi Jinping being in power such as Wolves and West Brom? Or Americana businessmen who have been proven made money from supporting two sides of a war or illegally made money from information from the pandemic. Show me the ethical money in football and ill show u a lier (not a man city fan just find it interesting that the issue originally was they were outspending everyone in every metric and giving other clubs stupid amounts of money for crap but as soon as they stopped buying other clubs ready-made stars for vast swaths of cash suddenly people weren't happy where the money was coming from. its dirty money until it's in your clubs bank account).
