Alexandra Road South, Whalley Range, Manchester M16 area…
But sadly the total destruction of our local shops and houses to make way for the next Millenium.
11, Alexandra Rd South still standing today where we lived.
The shops and park bring back slightly sad melancholy thoughts tinged with excitement of quite magical times past.
The Park in winter with the ducks skating across.
The corner veg shop with the never ending suspended running tap gag! 🚰 who remembers that !...
Feeling excited going shopping and Kentons supermarket later to become the first Tesco on Alec’ Rd. The double decker bus accident with the lady sadly getting fatally hurt on the corner of Alec’ Rd and Manley Rd. Hearing the dockyard ships horns go off to see in the New Year! and the biG snow in the early 60’s winters ❄️ 👏🏼😌

Wish I could go back and do it all again …..I lived on Hyde Road in a sweet shop ,and in my teen years. Went dancing to Levenshulme Palace and Belle Vue kings hall …..When I look at Hyde Road and Levenshulme now I could cry ….hardly a white face in site and it is a disgrace……Thank you for this walk back in time…..I am 81 now .

Looking back at all the old areas,they had real character the buildings, little architectural gems, and they knocked em down!A real scandal.

Thanks for putting this together. Don’t know what the planners were thinking of in the early 70s. Alec Road was the shopping hub of not just Moss Side but the whole surrounding area, Hulme, Whalley Range, Old Trafford.

Born &bread moss side Lincroftcroft St spent so many times walking this road &living at the herbal shop 1972 plus princess Rd. John Rooney uncle Sam had the cooker shop Claremont Rd few doors from the pub loved them days 6th rs old know live in St Anne's. Thanks for your pics.john

Feel oddly privileged to have lived through these times and remembering south Manchester intact as a community before the wrecking balll came. Some of the demolitions seemed almost like destroying the old for its own sake. Why were the Cenickle Convent buildings destroyed? They looked no older than some of the buildings around them.

Amazing video. I'll always cherish fond memories of M16.I played on the bomb sites, built fires for Guy Fawkes Night, The place was magical 🎉❤😂😂😂😂

All the wonderful shops gone. Takeaways, taxi companies, hairdressers, etc replaced them.

We used to live on Wilbraham Road, just by the corner of Alexandra Road South. This brings back many memories.

I remember lot of shop’s at Alexandra Road, Moss Side and Princess Road, Moss Side from back 1950’s and now gone+ sad. I was born 1958 at Moss Side.

Brilliant, I used to live at 56 Endsor Street back in the day, cousins/friends, Stephen and Gary Gregory, friends in the street and the next street Ian Thompson, Gary Mitchell, Carol Wood, Desmond, and the rest, I went to Princess Road Primary school, it was a very long time ago now. If anybody remembers me, ell that's nice, I`m sorry for having being a horrible little boy.

Used to live in 200 Upper Chorlton Rd in late 60s early 70s. It was a really nice area then.Whalley Hotel was my local.

I went to st bedes and used to do cross country in the park. Soon learned to run faster. Then worked in Hulme and Moss Side as a postie...lovely pubs🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺😀😷

I left when I was 8 so didn’t venture to far although once I walked with my brother to the infamous Model shop in Town!
