George Best scores his last ever United goal but is unable to stop United falling to a another defeat in the season they got relegated.Coventry score through Stein,Alderson and Cross,The other United goal scored by Morgan.

Bill Glazier was a fine goal-keeper. I can't imagine how he let in that soft shot from Best.

Crowd was 28,589. I presume this was during the ban on floodlighting period as it's quite dark at the end.

+Philip Raiswell The two aren't connected though. I think it was United's last home match before Christmas, plus United's 'faithful' fans had already seen the writing on the wall. Me? It was my first visit to Old Trafford as a Coventry supporter. I too had seen the writing on the wall and had dropped United as 'my' team at the start of 1973. Never looked back.

Kind of poetic that the lights were off as Best, the most dazzling and brightest talent the English game has seen, produced his last and by no means most memorable goal with a poor scuffed shot that should have been saved. The bright light of talent being snuffed out.

Mike West CC had a reasonable record against Man U, all things considered. During the 1970/80s, I'd much rather have seen their neighbours Man C go down- we usually got nothing from them. And take Nottingham Forest with them!

I was in the Stretford End seats (where I had previously sat as an MUFC fan before this season). I remember when Buchan's own goal went in jumping up and shouting 'yes', before I realised where I was!
