I no used to cue up at ticket office in the 80 s to get tickets to away matches to scousers away bitters away etc happy days we where shit as a team but ot then and red army away games no one came close to us

This would have been Tuesday 20th September 1977. Four days after Mark Bolan died in a car crash. Looking at the BBC TV schedule for that night, I would guess that I watched whatever was on BBC2 or ITV that night!

Typical politician Dennis Howell blaming it on the wrong person and not an organisation. It had nothing at all to do with Yootha Joyce. Yootha bless her was doing a wonderful job on George and Mildred. Talk about bringing the game into disrepute.

@cajjer I watched the game at Plymouth on giant screens at Old T (cos United banned our own fans from getting tickets !) .... it was on my birthday, October 5 !! 2-0 ..... Pearson and Coppel, I think .... we totally outplayed them ......... Porto in the next round was Duda-day !!!

Was at the game. Brought some souvenir welts home off a Gendarmes stick. We beat them at Plymouth in replay but went out to cheating Juventus at next stage. Great days to be a Football lad. 👺

Of course, as it turned out United were reinstated but only as long as they played their home leg x number of miles (actually it was probably kilometres) from Old Trafford, so they beat Saint Etienne at Plymouth before losing to FC Porto. So symptomatic of the time, this - the discussion (at the end, it appears, of a programme on race) fading out over the credits, one syllable of the network announcer before the NW regional announcer appears ...

United asked for government help to overturn it. In return we were asked to play a friendly in Iran for British trade week Most of the players were Ill after inoculations, Jimmy Greenhoff collapsed. As far as I know two United fans made it to Iran.

Boro were outside throwing the kitchen sink at Utd fans The sheer weight of numbers in the away enclosure led to a wall collapsing Shit hole of a ground, the reason the tragedy happened. And of course no fault of Boro who were causing it.
