Come on man we reached the CL final again just after Ronaldo left and Hargreaves wasn't really a proper starter anyway. I believe mostly we were out of luck, we reached the UCL final 3 times in 4 years but only won 1. Thats where we faced the best Barcelona team of all time maybe. Or that year when we got knocked out by Bayern in OT I thought we had a super solid team but Rafael fucked it up :))

Arian Behzad we were still a great team no denying that but would we have gone out on away goals with the best player in the world in our team? Idk mate, as for a fully fit Hargreaves he was brilliant and would've been such a batter option than Giggs or Carrick at that time

Mubeen Owen Hargreaves was a brilliant player mate. In Bayern, he was a rock solid all rounder defensive player with good technical abilities. He's comfortable on the ball and has great awareness. Sadly, in United he was plagued with injuries but still performed well even though he was placed out of positon (played out wide often). Ferguson just loved having a defensive winger controlling the right side with the front 2 and left winger roaming around.

Cristiano Ronaldo - 42 Goals - this was before the crazy stats him and Messi now have. Keeping in mind ronaldo played RM and LM that season and still managed so many goals. Ronaldo in the 2007/08 was probably the best season from a player I've ever seen, just because of his skills and doing things not seen before

His improvement was incredible... he went from 'a show pony with no end product' to a Ballon Dor Winner. Some of the skills people do nowadays- he was the first to do them !

Adam Reichl Messi has scored 25 goals in 29 finals he's played in. That's almost a goal in every final. At least you tried trolling though, better luck next time 😂😂😂

Being a Chelsea fan I grew up hating Fergie's United, particularly 07/08. Feared games against them as they played with heart and had match winners all over the pitch. Now I can't help but respect them.

yeah 04-09 was the golden age after that not anymore liverpool started to fall apart in 09/10 utd lost ronaldo and tevez in 09 and were never quite as deadly after that arsenal started losing most of their top players to city chelsea did maintain their level for 09/10 but also fell apart in 10/11

The best part about this team was the rotation they had in players like Anderson, Nani, O'Shea, Fletcher, Saha, Neville, Park, Evans. To be honest, only Nani and Saha (when healthy) could crack the starting 11 during that season. The rest were squad players but Ferguson not only was a tactician, but also a master in relationships and bonds with players to get the best out of them. Imperial managers like Ferguson dont exist anymore.

Mr James did they really? they went an entire league season unbeaten, never been done before and won't be done again, I I'm not counting Burnley in the inaugural season of the league. you talk nonsense, of course it would be just as interesting to see arsenal's tactics that season if not more so, given the unprecedented and uniquely difficult nature of their achievement. League championshops and European cups are won every season, going an entire league campaign unbeaten in a once in a hundred years event and is far more difficult

fuck... i miss those days. i remember watching the UCL final against Chelsea with my dad.. i was 13 at the time. unfortunately that was the last time i watched a game with him. he wasn't really into football, but that fact that he sat and watched the whole match with me meant a lot to my younger self. a night that i will never forget for sure. rip pops.

To add to your comments regarding European games, Park often was deployed in destroyer-esque role in midfield to help Carrick and Scholes in retrieving the ball and using Park's 3 lungs, it allowed United to go on swift counter attacks with Rooney, Ronaldo and Park playing keep ball. Very effective and something that is missing in the United team of today.

Great video, however there are a couple of key points that need to be mentioned to make this film better. There should have been more talk of the great squad rotation that Ferguson used. Hargreaves, Nani, Fletcher, O'shea, Saha, Park all contributed allowing the strongest 11 to stay fresh. You were also quite late to mention the interchangeable front line which on several occasions looked like a 4-6-0. Many of the opposing defences struggled on whether to sit deep, or come out and confront the Rooney, Ronald, Tevez play in front of them. Often this left spaces for the front 3 to get in behind with their blistering pace. This was disturbed to following season (2008-09) by the introduction on Berbatov and why Utd scored fewer goals. Although they had an awesome defence. Anyways another great vid, with real slick presentation.

JoeGraham11 Great point. United were so fast on the ball. Something you don’t see very often now but United players would routinely sprint across the back line opposite the movement of the ball to pull defenders out of position and create space for each other. Tevez in particular was seemingly always sprinting. That front line was so unselfish in their running and when they did find space United’s brilliant pair of Giggs and Scholes could find them from anywhere. You couldn’t really pin a formation on them because they were always switching depending on where the ball was. That was a magnificent team.

buying Berbatov unsettled Tevez, because he didn't like not starting, and inevitably ruined Tevez relationship with Fergie. Shame, because it weaken the team, and they didn't really need Berbatov.

As always people are always forgetting park ji sung's role to the team. The energy and intensity that brought to united's mostly elegant midfield is too underrated. I will always remember how Pirlo the maestro got clamped so hard by him.

Darren Fletcher was an unsung hero during the mid to late noughties as his work rate especially in Europe and big games was an invaluable asset for Man United.

This is the first premier league season I can remember really watching. I was 5 years old and rememeber watching every united game and getting so excited. I’ve watched the season on DVD about 200 times and used to have a book on it. Hoping we can get back to that level in the near future

+Apostolos Velios Can't remember who said it, but there's a point to be made about how English teams have forgotten how to play in the Champion's league. United, Liverpool and Chelsea all played in a very scrappy way, grinding out victories against sides they knew were better man to man, also by having a heavy emphasis on teamwork and high work rates. Teams like Arsenal, and particularly Man City seem to want to play on a level style to the Barcas and Bayerns, like they would with other English teams, seeming to deludedly be completely ignoring the absolute quality of such sides, and how much less tired they are by their own leagues.

Really interesting video. Thank you. Something I'd love to see (not done in a singular video as there are a few) would be some of the "greatest teams to under-achieve" from the top European Leagues, and/or "unluckiest teams to get relegated". In terms of under-achieving, the 08/09 Liverpool side for example out-scored everyone and had the best goal difference, but still finished second to Manchester United. Another video concept could be the 04/05 to 09/10 era of relative English dominance in the Champion's League - Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea reached a ridiculous amount of quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals between them - even Arsenal did too, though reached less semi-finals than the above teams. Please keep up the thorough and excellent work. The videos are easy enough to understand so as to be accessible, but aren't in any way riddled with the cliches of ex-England football players on Sky Sports and other outlets. As a fan, I never feel condescended when watching these, nor out of my depth. It's very much appreciated - stellar work.

@uMaxitFootball - You guys should do a "Tactics Explained | Inter 2009/10)" - That evolution from the 4-3-1-2 to the 4-2-3-1, with the addition of Pandev to the lineup + the versatility of players like J. Zanetti etc. - Not always necessary to focus only on English Football.

Well, the Man U days were quickly ushered out in 2009 onwards by the Barca squad (in Europe at least). omg, watching those two CL finals as a United fan was crushing.

that two midfielder Scholes & Carrick is legendary maybe the most underrated duo ever. media UK thought Carrick was over paid then he shut them all with his goal against Roma & he was the reason United won PL 2012/2013

#UMAXITGIVEAWAY4 United have just signed a promising young striker from Senegal. At his first ever practice, Sir Alex comes over with a ball. "BALL" he says loudly, pointing at it. "KICK" and makes an exaggerated kicking motion. "GOAL", pointing at the goal. The Senegalese player is pretty hurt by how condescending the manager is, but he's also very intimated. However, after another minute of similar instructions he approaches Ferguson and says "you know... I do speak English". Sir Alex replies "hang on lad, I'm still talking to Wayne" Hope you like it!

Yeah, I remember those days. The attacking players kept switching positions and roles while attacking or counter attacking causing a lot of confusion for defenders. From there, I knew for fact that you cannot play for SAF's United unless you can play at least 3 different positions effectively in the same match.
