Lazy analysis on the first half. Villa did not outplay or dominate United in the first half. Onana was dreadful on the first goal and United were lazy on the second goal set piece not marking the back post runner. Those two mistakes aside, United had the better of the play in the first half. Too often these pundits simply rely on goals to then make sweeping narratives about the play on the field. It’s lazy punditry.

I don't actually think Utd were poor in the first half. They were the better team but made the same mistakes they've been making all season leading to a 2 goal deficit. The second half they turned up a gear and smashed villa at their best. Injuries aside and a run of good games and they'll come pretty good.

There's no way these guys watched the first half. If they did, they would have broken the first half into two halves. UTD battered Villa in the last 20 of the first half but they could not score. As Patrice Evra said it was almost inevitable the second half performance.

Rashford will be a much more effective all around winger if he focuses less on just constantly cutting inside onto his right foot and wildly shooting from distance. I saw much more of an overall game from him tonight going down the line, combining, putting in first time crosses, and tracking back. United will be much more threatening if Rashford embraces playing as a complete winger instead of just looking to score goals for himself.

Eriksen in midfield with a talent like Mainoo to support, gave him the room to play his natural playmaker game. Same for Bruno, who now had the freedom to help create chances and join the attacking trio. EtH played to the current team's strength, which is their counterattack coupled with their blistering pace in Rashy, Garnacho, and Høljund.

Don’t you understand that playing that counterattacking style is why United haven’t progressed in the last few years. That style can win games against high lines, but it’s not made conducive to long term success. United have to play a more controlling style.

@@znhait with the injuries and disruptive chaos around the club and some players, until we get casemiro lisandro etc back, we should just focus on collecting points. villa were joint 1st in the league at half time and were playing a high line. against more challenging teams even sir alex had no problem with counter attacking. tbh sir alex and mourinho are two of the best counter attacking managers of all time.

@@znhait rubbish. They can play a hybrid, which is what Ten Hag wants. This is what Liverpool and Madrid play. They are transition teams. It's direct, intense and to some degree controlled. Against low blocks, more creativity and individual ball playing skills are required. That's all. We need better individuals to progress to that level, but the blueprint is good. Not every team need to play like Man City and Brighton.

Spot on and your absolutely right the best teams can manage to be good in counter attack and also press high when that needs to in both you can control the game and dictate the tempo but with a defense line who can turn of so easily and with a goal keeper like onana i think its impossible in the long run.

Really bewildered by Shaka's point on "why United are not more direct every game and try to pass out from the back?" - Every team doesn't play a high line like Aston Villa. You cannot go direct to your wingers when teams such as Bournemouth or West Ham are sitting in a low block and looking to counter. There is no space behind to exploit, you have to break these teams down by going through them.

I also don't think it is a stretch calling out the ESPN panel's bias when they admit that they destroy United all the time, they say it in the video. Valid criticism is fine but Burley looks to crucify United because he knows that, in the long run, the terrible way the club is run will ultimately lead to his criticisms being correct, big picture. Today he was wrong.

I became a Liverpool-United fan supporting United. They created chances in the first half but didn't take them. Villa's only 2 chances from set pieces were clinical, but United was better, and Villa couldn't handle the pressure in the second half. Obviously, Ericson made the difference he was United's load balancer. Ganacho was clinical, Hojlund converted a half chance to seal their win, Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Rashford were terrific and the tenacity of the team was unbelievable. That is the United we know, not the one that parked buses at Anfield. I hope this will kickstart their season at season 2. What a match. 👏 👏 👏

I doubt that some of the pundits really watch the games . United did a lot during the first half . It’s not like they “didn’t do anything”. The first half goals were from set plays against them . And they didn’t just play 15 yards up ,in fact they were building from the back and then making crosses from Erickson and Bruno to penetrate the back line . The key factor for that is Erickson coming back to make it all tick in midfield .

I hear pundits say on every channel that the two halfs were completely different and scorewise they are right. However i don‘t know what game they were watching. The first half aston villa had 2 shots on goal, both came from standards and both went in, besides that united had more shots but did not score and it was an open game for both teams in the first half. The second half only little things changed, united were more aggressive in press and therefore took more control of the game but that was not a complete change from the fist half, it was more a continuation of what they already did and stepping it up a gear.

I think United were good in the first half. They concede 2 bad set piece goals. I think United aren’t actually that bad I. General. Most of the goals they concede are poor mistakes which simply shouldn’t be made and are avoidable.

2nd half ManUnited defenders sought the strikers first and they had much more space to play. The midfielders had more time to join the strikers in the attack. Hope EtH will keep the style of play of the 2nd half.

2nd half of this match was Man U's best half of this season. Exciting comeback, game lived up to the hype or exceeded it. This team puts out a very good performance like 2nd half of the villa match every 2-3 games or so, so it's interesting whether they will keep this form up or revert to boring slow inept style of the recent defeat to Bournemouth (for example). Rashford on left and Garnacho on right was good idea by manager, the Argentine was effective cutting inside from the right

You have a rag-tag collection of decent individuals mixed with donkeys...no common belief or discipline in the squad...and a manager who can't respond to different tactics. One week you could beat ManC...the next you will lose to Burnley. Just watch how they do against Forest next.

United reminded me of Spurs under Conte. Villa need to spend. They're 12th in total spending, and the top 6 are generally the top 6 spenders. The only exception currently is Chelsea who've effectively swapped places with Villa in terms of spending vs results

For me… both our wings were dangerous today… rashford and garnacho , that was a major difference…. I enjoyed the game and second half was on the edge of my seat… This way we played most of last season… My angst with eth, if he can get the personal right, give them what needs to be done and this team will try and deliver but he has yet to build from last season, we still can’t defend set pieces, the interplay between players can be better… But am pretty sure we will be better second season with rashford coming into form and if the right personnel are used and we get liccha back, we just might make top 4

First half wasn't that bad as portrayed. Aston Villa were just lucky for the set pieces and bad defense. Other than that, UNITED dominated the game in the first half. Second half punditry was spot on for all pundits. Good job y'all.

Garnacho shines, scores three goals (one disallowed though not by his fault) and plays the game of his life. Yet English pundits can only talk about Hojlund finally finding the net. About the much touted "United pressure", the one AV guy who had a total meltdown was Diego Carlos. If it hadn't been for his blunders, United would have lost yet again.

Garnacho offside is definitely his fault. No one around him and he just need to stay behind the ball and wait for the pass. Instead he was too eager and ended up being offside

This summer, Jurgen Klopp missed out on a 185 million worth of transfer targets in Caicedo and Lavia. And Klopp is still sitting on top of the table because he filled that giant hole in his transfer plans by singing Wataru Endo for 18 million instead (1/10th of what was planned). In a season where Liverpool was expected to finish in top 4 at best, Klopp is competing for a title against Guardiola (who gets to sign any player he wants with an open chequebook) and Arteta (who was given the freedom to buy a Declan Rice for 105 million even though he has only won 1 FA Cup in 5 years). The tactical acumen of Klopp is on another level compared to the other two. There's no way Guardiola or Arteta could have taken this Liverpool team into a title race this season. I think it takes a very biased eye to miss that.

Lol united dominated from 30 minutes on. They still had some sloppy passing the entire game but the speed was always going to make chances against that villa high line.
